Just drove in my first snow with my Yokahama Advans. I expected better than I got. On one hill I had to quickly shut off the traction control so that I could actually make it up the hill - mostly sideways - and there wasn't that much snow....

 

I wouldn't even think of taking my car out on the snow with out some "ballast" in the trunk. Try at least 100lbs. Maybe more. Just remember the Crossfire has a 450lb. weight capacity limit. I think that's including passengers.

That is correct.

 

Actually, a little snow is worst than a lot (up to a point). When it is a little, the snow compresses as vehicles pass over it causing ice. With more build up you get far better traction. However, as previously said, you need weight. I have a GMC 3500 4X4 and without weight it will sit there and spin in 4X4! Put in 500# and nothing will stop it!

Similar principle applies to Crossfires. Let's face it though, if you don't break down and put new tires and wheels on it, it sucks!

 

It's not like I haven't driven in snow before. Two winters so far with the X-fire... I was expecting more from the Yok's - my Conti's were better....

And as for driving the Crossfire in Hartford today, let's just say I'm glad I didn't trade in my '03 GTI when I got the SRT-6. I have a set of Blizzaks on the SRT-6, but that doesn't mean I want to use them!

BTW - Is part of your commute to go east on Park Avenue in Bloomfield in the morning? I've spotted a Crossfire along that route a bunch of times when I'm going to work.

 

Gibsonjunkie, I was just saying the added weight would help. I also think using a tall skinny tire on a 17" Mercedes rims would be the best alternative for any type of winter driving.
If I had to use my Crossfire in the winter, that's the route I would take.
We've been known to get a little snow around here also.

 

I've got the S4's. The jury is out on how I like them in snow - although they're terrific in rain and dry roads. My wife has a 2006 Nissan Frontier and on bad days I drive her to work and then take the truck - It just didn't seem that bad when I left the house. I do travel on Park Ave. all the time. I eat at Pluto's every morning around 7:30 am - right where Park Ave meets Blue Hills Ave....

When the Contis were discontinued I switched to the Yokohama S.4. due to their all season capabilities. I'm hoping that maybe you didn't buy the S.4. and instead bought one of their more high performance tires.

Although we don't see much snow in our part of Kentucky we usually get at least one good ground covering. I'm selling my beater in May and after that I plan on driving the Crossfire in all types of weather. Currently I'm not driving it if we even have a chance of rain - much less snow or ice.

I'm witholding judgement until I've had the chance to drive them some more in bad weather... don't like having to do it, but I'm used to it by now...
