Default Why I bought a roadster

On Wednesday afternoon I had to drive to Omaha, then to my church in Sterling and finally back home to Lincoln. All in all about 160 miles. It was about 82 degrees and mostly sunny. The trees are beginning to turn colors. The crops in the fields of Nebraska are a patchwork quilt of green, red, yellow, and gold. Cruising down the highway on such a day in a responsive car with the top down made me feel young again. These were the kind of days I dreamed about in February when I bought a roadster.

Couldn't agree with your guys more

Forget sunroofs, nothing compares to a ragtop.

I returned on monday night from a 3200 km/2000 mile road trip to Victoria, British Columbia. Top down all the way there , wife and top up all the way back (RAIN). The trees are changing in this northern climate, and with the snow caped mountains of the Rockie's towering above its was spiritual trip.I spent my first night in Kelona, overlooking lake Okanagan, but was too tired to search for" jadedforcars". Wednesday. I booted down the Princton / Hope highway into Vancouver, MAN is this ever a rush. Hwy 3 is just north of the Washington border, with as many twists and turns as the road to Hana on Maui, but a lot less bridges and waterfalls. After a 2 hour wait I boarded the ferry to Vancouver Island, had a lite lunch then went back to my Crossfire to grab my camera and heard someone's car alarm going off, It was me !! the tidal surge in Active Pass was enough to trigger the alarm.Thursday and Friday I ,toured the south part of the Island the highlight being a run up to Port Renfrew on the west coast, again not unlike the Hana road. Saturday, catch the 11:00 ferry and start the trip home, Vancouver is not the best of citys to navigate, but we get thru and start our return trip on the Princton /Hope hwy.The westcoast Ceders and Redwood's stand magestic in stark contrast to the Pine's of the B.C.s interior. due to an infestation of the pine beatle, the redness and defolination of the pines give a warning to ongowing global warming. So its a quick visit to Quails Gate winery in the Okanagan and on the road back home, only to find that the Trans Canada Hwy is closed at Golden, so a detour to Radium Hot Springs and another Hotel is required!. Monday in the rain and fog becomes another great drive down into Baniff and Calgary as the mountains give way to the flatlands and unlimited speed,Yes this is why I bought a Crossfire Roadster

Had a sun roof and while it was nice, it just falls short of the real freedom you experience with the top down. The only other would be on a motorcycle or a horse; the horse wouldn't work well going to work and I really don't think I'll get a bike again.

just out of curiousity, how many of you guys ever just jump right in the car (without opening doors) and took off like in those old 80's and 90's movies.

At my age, I doubt I could jump clear of the rocker panel. Don't think I'll try that

From the time a was a kid I always wanted to ride in a ragtop, but never had the chance. My first opportunity came along when a friend of mine was dating this girl who had just gotten a Labaron. She brought it to a party we where at and my buddy and I swiped the keys and took it out for a "quick" drive. An "hour and a half" later we returned to his very ticked-off girlfriend, but we had a great ride.

Anyway, ever since then a ragtop was at the top of my list. When the Crossfire was first released the ragtop was not available. I was so taken by the cars styling that it just couldn't wait and leased the Coupe for 3 years. I was going to keep the Coupe, but when I went in to the dealership to sign the papers for the Coupe, my dealership friend tells me he has a Roadster out back. Sooo, I walk around back and it's the Aero Blue ragtop I wanted from the very beginning. I think it took me 10 seconds to sign the papers on the Roadster and hand them back the keys to the Coupe.

Even time I drive this car through the hills of north Jersey it's a very satisfying experience. I guess some things are just meant to be.

A person could really hurt themselves trying that. I have visions of trying it and standing on the seat. Or breaking my kneecaps on the steering wheel. Maybe it can be done....

I have visions of it evrytime I walk up to the car, then I slowly open the door and slide in. We just finished a trip to Aspen with the top down on the way up, what a beautiful drive. We drove home the following day in the rain with the top up, what a beautiful drive.

I love these wheels!!!

Sounds like we had the same weather 1000 miles to the North, no leaks in 14 hours of rain . The low cloud in the mountains looked like smoke, if sunlight had hit the pines and aspen it would have been a "blaze" of colour

it sounds like theres no one out there thats really done andjumped in a crossfire (without oppening doors) i would like to be the first or second or how many other people have done it before if possible its harder then it looks if so i will put it on youtube and the only reason ill attempt this is because i once heard there are only like 3,000 roadsters in the whole country (america) so that number being very low in volume it would be cool to be one of the first few to only do it. my first response was if anyone has jumped in the roadster and then just took (with traction controll OFF, it looks cooler(j/k) like in the older 80's and 90's movie i dont know what to you guys think.
