Default Battery problems-again!

Thought the trunk lite was the problem, wrong, back again in 4 days, dead battery. Been a mechanic for 55 years & a car dealer for 40 & never quite had this problem ever. Previosly checked charging rate, 14.2, right on, checked battery drain 1/2 a amp, right on, charged battery & put on a loadmeter, stays right in the good range!!. Left cables connected, two days parked & its dead again, charged battery, took off negative cable, two days & its dead again!, car now put away for winter, next spring new battery, oh yes, trunk lite still disconnected.

Sounds like you have a bad battery. Buying a new one may be your best bet. How old is it?

1/2 amp drain is huge. Typical battery drain is less than 50 mA (0.05A) with an inactive car. Did you mean 50 mA?

Buff5, You should be able to get an Interstate MTP-91 battery for around $100. Direct replacement, 85 month battery.

You might be able to do better than that. See my thread today here. I got an 85 month Interstate MTP-91 battery for $99.99. Some here have found a better price.

Took it to a battery shop, they said drain was nomal 500 milliamps, that better? I also took a 12volt,single element bulb& hooked it in series to the disconnected negative cable & on the initial touch, the lite was brite & went completely out in about a second, as it was indicated in the directions, was a normal drain. Also does the new interstat battery have the same outward physical appearence as the original Crossfire battery, white case etc ?

Interstate MTP-H6 looks more like the OEM, it is clear/white color. Less CCA but enough to work.

Thanks Chris, I understand BUT how do you explain the battery going dead after 2 days EVEN with the Negative cable disconnected???. Got to be the battery, I charge it to full, leave it sit two days with cable off, thus 0 drain & it still goes dead.

Sounds like a defective battery.

To answer your previous question, the MTP-91 is black, slightly shorter than the OEM and has 700 CCA rating. It's an 85 month battery.

If the battery goes dead without anything hooked up to it, what else could it be but a bad battery? Probably internally shorted or a bad cell. This is not rocket science.

No doubt the battery is bad. Question is did it die a normal death or was it hastened by excessive drain? In any event, once you get your new battery, you can try the current draw check again.
