Default Ceramic Brake Pads

The shop that recently rotated my tires did not recommend switching to these pads like the rotex that are popular with the forum members. He said they do not perform as well, which is why they don't come on high end sports cars like porsche, mercedes, etc.. Will I notice mushy-brakes or noticeable stopping power if I go with rotes gold? I certainly am tired of cleaning my wheels weekly.

Bull crap! I have ceramics and feel they work at least as well as the OEM's they replaced.

High-end sports cars come with ceramic pads and rotors to dissipate heat more efficiently.

Thanks, Maxcichon, The rotex seem popular with this forum. I will give them a try.

Well wait just a sec.....
Rotex are not ceramic - at least the standard ones.
I use the Posi Quiet which are the same as Rotex Gold, just maunfactured for a different "brand". They are a blend os Semi Metalic material and Kevlar.
Ceramic versions are available but they do not have the stoppoing power of the factory or quality semi metalic pads. Ceramic loast a very long time and produce very little dust (usually tan compared to the usual dark gray)
BTW Rotex calls their ceramic pads "Rotex Ceramicool"

Take this for what it is worth:

Not quite 20K miles ago, I put Advance Auto Parts best rotors and ceramic pads on the front of my Durango. I too, was tired of cleaning front wheels once or twice a week. Every bit as bad as the OEM Crossfire pads.

These ceramics did the trick for me. The front wheels actually looked cleaner than the back wheels when I went to wash them. The new pads totally eliminated any dark dusting. And it stopped just as well as OEM pads I replaced, maybe better.

This week the trouble began. It sounded like metal to metal grinding in the right front. I took the wheel off and half of the inside lining broke away. The other half of the lining and the outside pad was still at least 1/4" thick.

I am replacing the pads with ceramics again, but a different brand. Time will tell.

James

I have Posi-Quiets on my car and have spent time on track with it. I scared the **** out of a guy in a Porsche 911 when I out-braked him from 125mph setting up for a 35mph left hand corner. I talked to him later and he said he was stunned that I could stop that fast and it caught him totally off guard.

And my wheels stay clean.

Disc Italia Hyper Ceramic on my SRT6. Stops great and little dust. Since I have had the car, and before changing the pads, I noticed that the brakes feels just the slightest bit mushy compared to my roadster. By mushy I mean the initial push is a little soft and then it grabs hard.

No problems noted and I plan to change out at least the fronts on my roadster this spring since I am tired to washing the rims every weekend.

O.K. So everyone to ceram or not to ceram that is the question...

It seems as if the rotex gold's are popular out here but given that they are not ceramics and after reading the following I am unsure as to whether they are going to solve my dust issue over the stockers.

Can I get opinions on the top three based on your experiences?

BTW how many miles should one get on a pair of oem pads? I may just have enought of an excuse to replace mine now that I have hit 15k.

Thanks

Nate

Clarifying my answer: Disc Italias are considerably less dust than OEM. No way I can compare with Rotex.

I have 32k on my roadster, mostly highway, and original pads. My sense is they have a lot of life remaining but I may replace them in the spring to eliminate the constant dust.

Hi have the Posi Quiets (Rotex Glod) on the SRT6 & SRT8 (semi Metalic series) there is minimal dust and still stops great. Best of both worlds.
I would not hesitate to put these on any car.

I just installed new front rotors (powersluts) and rotex gold pads. A considerable difference from the stock, harder pedal feel, and they look cooler. When hot, they are super super smooth, and a bit better at modulating. And they look cooler.

I found my '***** on flea-bay for 180 shipped. Kid selling them couldn't get the caliper retainer bolts loose and didn't have the cash to take them to a shop. I didn't have the heart to tell him that I had the same problems, but I did reference that thread. Nice thing about the '*****, they shouldn't rust easy being cadmium plated an'all. I hope.

I understand Mercedes does not "recommend" resurfacing the Brake Rotors - does this REALLY need to be followed? I'd prefer resurfacing if it is Okay
