Problems with putting top up ?
Newbie from canada as well...
I just traded in a 2004 coupe for a 2005 roadster and am having trouble getting the roof up properly. I bought it a couple of days ago from a car dealership (not a Chrysler place) and they had trouble as well..
I tried following the manual but it still wasn't working properly. The roof gets to the point where you turn the latch but am having huge problems getting them hooked in. As well the back isn't going in properly and the dealership guys said i have to get out of the car and physically push the back in - that doesn't seem to make sense to me...In the meantime I concerned about going out in it if it is going to take me 10 minutes to finally get the roof secured? Is it just me or is there something wrong with the car? Other than that I love it - liked the 2004 but really wanted a convertible!
thanks

You should never ever have to get out and push in the back...that sounds to me as if it is a mechanical problem and the dealer is dead wrong. As to the latch, I can offer nothing as I've never had a problem...are you pulling down on it slightly?
If you have access to carfax or equivalent, I'd do a history on this car to see if anything has ever been reported.

Then, using two hands, use the right to turn the handle 90 degrees. Use the left to slowly ease the front down to touch (don't slam it) and turn the handle to lock.
It SHOULD be that easy-if it isn't, there might be a problem.
okay- I have it in the garage right now - will try that - because it has beeped, without the back locked in and i find the front is coming down hard...I hope this isn't the beginning of problems - just picked the car up on Thursday. As well i was plugging in a charger to the lighter - works for 2 seconds then stops working - wondering if this is fuse. I am a female with very little knowledge of cars
If the rear/internal latch isn't locking-it can be adjusted. I haven't done it myself, but should be little trouble. Yhe front WILL tend to slam shut-this is made like that to put tension on the fabric when it's closed. Use your right hand to pull down on the handle while pushing up with your left hand to ease it down. Once it's 1" away, it will tend to pull down by itself.
Do you have an Owners Manual? The instructions, with pictures is in there.

okay - jsut tried it again - the back goes to about 1 1/2" then stops - i gently pushed down and it was still about 3/4" from closed - i pushed the button on the console and it then latched in - the front clicked in easily as well then - no problems - looks like I'll have to get it to a dealership. There is still 14 months of warranty - does anyone know if there is a deductible for warranty repairs?

You should have no charges for this. There is no TSB I am aware of.
Best of luck!
Thanks for the info - I won't play with it until the dealership can do the adjustment - I don't want to make it worse.. I'm from the Toronto area - lots of sun today but too cold anyway to put the roof down
You should be good to go on the warranty, but will be told that if it isn't a warranty covered item that they will charge you a fee to look at the vehicle. That is very standard. Until you can make an appointment - STOP PLAYING WITH IT!! Did you put the top issues on your We Owe/Due Bill when you bought the vehicle? That would cover any fees incurred for non-warranty work. I think the car might have a computer/elect. issue based on the other issues you are having, but its ok because you have a warranty. Don't wait to have it looked in to!
nekers, the trunk has a fold down section...it makes more room when the top is up, but must be in the upright position and properly locked into position before lowering the top...if this wasn't in the right position when you put the top down, then will create a problem...open your trunk and make sure that piece is upright and locked into position correctly...you may have already knocked things out of alignment. Used car dealer know nothing about these cars....I am sure this problem was there since he forced the top closed which is a big no no....on these cars....good luck
Nice car. I thought you were going to wash the paint off the other day. I live on Marsh Harbour and have a black 05 roadster. I seen yours the other day and thought you must have just got it.
If you want we can compare our tops to see what the problem is with yours.
Did you buy the one at the Volvo dealership or the one at the corner of yonge and Green Lane? There are not that many around.

I had the same problem with mine, the adjustment is VERY easy to do yourself and will save you time and money. All you need to do is adjust the latch on the rear of the convertible top UP. When you are opening the top, stop it in the position before the tonneau cover opens. It only takes a minute to fix so don't worry about the top releasing the hydraulic pressure. Check the latch to see if it is lined up straight and towards the uppermost position. Mine was kind of crooked in place, after I loosened the bolts on both sides, straightened the latch, moved it upwards, and re-tightened the bolts, the top is closing properly just like the manual says. With the right tool, its an easy DIY fix!
