Last year I drove to Fla. And back. I averaged about 28mpg. Look at this way you're going toto pay about one penny per mile to put the good stuff in. $10.00 on a thousand mile trip. If that's a deal breaker you have bought the wrong car. You'll forget all about mph when you get on the road.

Your octane is a RON rating, not a MON rating. Your RON and our MON 93 are equivalent. As far as pricing, well, you win..........ur, I mean loose... atleast for now. We are gaining.

I use Shell V-Power 93 octane to help prevent any kind of knock whatsoever. The cars may adapt, but I don't take any chance of damaging the engine. When I race at the track, I always add a gallon or 2 of 100 octane race fuel to be certain that the timing isn't being pulled also. I want the car to be 100 percent all the time.

You'd have to be a fool to run a lower octane fuel in these cars! Don't ever wonder why something went wrong with your engine if you do. Like it has been mentioned, the car requires 91 octane, so run that or higher. Our babies only see 93 octane running through their veins, unless I have a few extra dollars on the way to the track to hang with Neal and Chuck!

My estimate is that its going to cost me $200.00 for gas at 21 mpg? Does that sound realistic?
21 mpg? Good "worst case" estimate, I'd say. I never drive the speed limit, I am always 10 over and usually 13-15 over no matter what I am driving. In both my auto N/A and my current stick N/A, I get 25.5 to 28 on the highway on trips. Both cars got virtually the same - always around 27 +/- 1.5 mpg. If I find 100% gasoline, I picked up 2 or more MPGs which stretched it close to 30 mpg.

When I was driving across Michigan weekly to Detroit and Midland, I used midrange. Now, with a lot less miles per month, I stick with premium. MPG has not differed between the two. Don't use regular and if the sticker hurts, fill it up when it is half empty.

That was interesting, and I noticed the same, that when I go the spped limit here in Idaho at 75 I actually get better gas milage? About 1.5 miles better or i get about 26 MPG.

I don't know about Australia, but I think I am right is saying, that a Gallon in the U.S.A. is not as big in volume as a gallon in Britain. (I.E. a pint in the U.S.A. is 20 Fl Oz, in Britain it is 22 Fl Oz) That works out 16 Fl Oz different per gallon.
By all means correct me if I am wrong someone.
While on this subject, Think U.S.A. Gas is expensive, in Britian gas is approx 3.45 pounds/litre which equates to 12.45 Dollar/gallon. Maybe one of you U.K. members could confirm that.

Not quite that expensive yet £1.45 per litre is about average for premium unleaded . Give it a few more days and it may be upto the £3.45 a litre the way things are going over here

I gallon (Imp) = 1.20095 (US) gallon = 4.54609 liters
I gallon (Imp) = 192.15 (US) fl.oz.
1 gallon (US) = 160 (US) fl.oz. (exactly) = 3.785412 liters

Difference = 32.15 (US) fl.oz. or .7607 liters

For all intents the UK gallon is 1/5 larger than the US gallon.

£1.45/liter in the UK = £5.49/US gallon =(US)$8.69/US gallon (US $ = £1.583)

Canada premium gas is about $1.51/liter = (US) $5.72/gallon (US $ = Ca $)

Hey, this seems like a good thread to bring this up. This weekend at the DRagon I filled up twice at Deals Gap (93 octane was something like $4.35 a gallon).

Anyway, his 87 octane was 'up to 10%' ethanol. But his 93 was 'up to 3.5%' ethanol.

Is this normal? Is all 93 that low in ethanol? I am thinking so, might be why pumps say "up to 10%"???

Just wondering.

Sorry , I us gallon is 8 pints, at 16 Fluid ounces, =128 oz
I Imperial gallon (UK) is 8 pints at 19.999 (alright 20) fluid ounces = 160 oz
To complicate matters more I imp fl oz is 0.9607 us fl oz ????.......... :O)
But I us gallon is about 4/5 of an imperial gallon

Ethanol has a higher octane rating than gasoline and refiners are required to meet certain national renewable fuel standards which effectively is requiring they blend as much ethanol in gasoline as legally possible. Most all (over 90% of all US gasoline) has ethanol in it and a very high percentage of it will contain ethanol at or near the highest legal blend (10% by volume) in order to meet this standard. 15% is now legal but it likely won't be hiting th market until the summer and likely in very localized areas. It is only legal in 2001 and newere cars.

The long and short of it is, I'm not sure how the station owner determined it would only have 3.5% but my guess is he doesn't know what he's talking about. A 10% volume blend is 3.5% percent oxygen by weight, so I think he is confused about what he told you. Also, right now, ethanol is cheaper than gasoline -- and therefore it is cheap octane -- so I would expect it would be a 10% blend.
