Default STORY OF HOW I GOT MY ROADSTER

ok gang, since i made a promise to myself and to the dealer who I DIDNT GET MY CROSSFIRE FROM, I AM GONNA TELL YOU THIS STORY.

the end of may of this year , when i made up my mind that i wanted a roadster, i went to naber chrysler in shallote , n.c. they had 4 coupes on the lot. i wanted a roadster. they had gotten 1 roadster in and sold it as soon as they got it. so i asked about ording one and the told me it could take 6 or 8 weeks, no guarantee when it would arrive. the salesman there didnt know squat about the features , colors , options of the roadster. they seemed as if they really didnt have time to mess with me.
i didnt want to order one and wait for it so i asked if the could locate me one with everything and the color i wanted at another dealership somewhere. they told me thst the only way they could do that was to trade another dealership a roadster for it., and the dont have any.
so needless to say i walked out and went home.

i got on the computer and did a dealer search and located one exactly like i wanted right down to the type of tires at mcbrayer chrysler in aberdeen, n.c. i called and talked to the sales manager, told him i was interested in that car and that i was on the way to look at it. i was 3 hours from that dealer location. so i headed down the road, got within 30 min. of dealership and a voicemail popped up on my phone saying that someone was there interested in the car. so i called him and he said that a customer came in and put 10k down and was takink it home for the night to show his wife.

it was not a very nice conversation on my end and when i was through i hung up on him.

i emailed the dealorship when i got home and let them have it and basically promised that i would never ever do business with them and would tell everyone i came in contact with this story.

anyway, to finish the story, i went to myrtle beach chrysler, they located me exactly what i wanted in tallahasse, fl, trade the dealer in fl achrysler 300 with hemi, and trucked my roadster in from fl.
very nice dealership.

the funy thing about this story is that two weeks after i got my roadster, i got an email from the dealer at mcbrayer who had pissed me off, wanting to see if i was still interested in the roadster and he would make me a deal.

it is the same car ! evidently the guy changed his mind or his wife said no and he brought it back.

THINGS COME BACK AND BITE YOU IN THE BUTT SOMETIMES!

Glad you finally got the roadster you wanted. Hopefully the other dealer lost a little business because of your post; hopefully the roadster is still in his inventory.
Some of these 5 star dealers should be "-5 stars".
Lots of luck and happy motoring in your new Xfire.

how about that, my dealer here in clearwater fl also traded a 300 with a hemi for my black roadster as I did not want the silver roadster I test drove. My dealer, Dayton Andrews, was willing to go anywhere and do anything to get me in the car I wanted. Their roadster inventory is moving now very nicely. They have sold another black, 2 yellows, a silver and now have a red one in the showroom.
Speaking of 300 with a hemi, have you see the black with silver mist? I was hoping my xfire would have been that color!
Hey John, enjoy the shirts!!

Default Same problem here in Austin Texas

I had a similar experience when hunting for my roadster here in Austin, TX. When one dealer finally got the roadster in they seemed very perplexed by it and could tell me nothing about the features. I started talking numbers with them and in the process of shooting numbers back and forth they actually starting raising the sticker price!

I started dealing with another dealership who was equally as un-helpful at first, but then when they weren't moving the roadsters they had started becoming more and more friendly.

The day I was ready to move on one I went back to the first dealership who were hostile and rude and refused to come off the price at all. I called the second dealershop in front of the salesperson and asked if they would accept my number. They said yes, and I walked off the lot, drove north and bought my Aero Blue Roadster Limited. Since my purchase the other dealership has called three times to apologize.

WELL, THE BEST THING TO DO , I THINK IS NOT TO LET THEM FORGET ABOUT IT. YOU GUYS PROBABLY KNOW AS WELL AS ME THAT THE BEST ADVERTISING , OR IN THE CASE OF THE 2 DEALERS THAT I ENCOUNTERED FIRST, THE WORST! IS WORD OF MOUTH. AND LIKE I SAID IN MY POST, EVERYONE THAT ASKS ME ABOUT MY CAR, I TELL THEM THE STORY, INCLUDING THE 5 STAR TREATMENT I GOT FROM MYRTLE BEACH CHRYSLER WHERE I GOT MY ROADSTER. THOSE GUYS WERE WILLING TO DO WHATEVER THEY HAD TO DO TO GET ME THE CAR I WANTED. AND FOR THAT , THEY HAVE MY SERVICE AND NEW CAR BUSINESS IN THE FUTURE.

ONE DAY ON A COLD AND RAINY OR JUST PLAIN SLOW DAY, THOSE GUYS AT MCBRAYER AND NABOR MIGHT THINK ABOUT THAT WHEN THEY ARE STANDING AROUND SCRATCCHING THEIR ASSES WISHING THEY COULD SELL A CAR.
AND BY THE WAY, I CHECKED AGAIN TODAY AND MCBRAYER STILL HAS THAT CAR ON THEIR LOT. MAKES ME LAUGH.

SO AUSTIN, DONT LET EM FORGET MAN!

AND BILL, NO I HAVENT SEEN THAT COLOR ON THE 300 HEMI YET, I BET IT LOOKS SHARP! MY DAD WANTS A 300 HEMI.. AND YEAH MAN! I LOVE THE SHIRTS! THANKS ALOT.
IW WILL SEE IF I CAN SPREAD SOME OF THAT WORD OF MOUTH ADVERTISING FOR YA, AND I MEAN THE POSITIVE KIND! LOL

Glad to hear you finally got the one you wanted!

Maybe you should drive it to the "bad dealership" every now and then, and go in to enquire about accessories. That you'll buy from the "good dealership" of course!

Similar story with my coupe. I found the exact car I wanted on the internet. I called the dealer on a Friday (my birthday) & said I wanted to put a deposit over the phone to hold the car since I was still at work & couldn't get there until Sat. morning. The salesman said "I can't take a deposit over the phone, it's illegal". I said fine, I’ll be there first thing Sat. morning to pick up the car. I made an appointment for 9:00 am. I showed up & saw my 04 waiting for me. I took a tour around their lot. I saw some 05's but not in the color combination I fell in love with. I asked the salesman if he would run a check to see if there were any 05's around & to run the numbers to see what my payments would be on the newer model. He seemed flustered & walked away. A long time passed. I walked into the showroom to be told that they just sold my 04 that I came to buy! I had a check in my hand ready to buy the 04. Apparently they thought I didn't want the 04 because I inquired about the 05. This was furthest from the truth. I was there to buy the 04 but just curious about the 05! Since I was the only person on the lot, I asked how they just sold my car from under me. They said "well, there's a customer on the phone at another dealer that just bought it". I called Bull ****! I told them how I tried to buy the car over the phone the night before & I was told it was illegal. They wouldn't budge! I still had my check in my hand as I was standing in the manager’s doorway wanting to buy the car & they said they just sold it! We went back and forth. They offered to sell me the owner of the dealership's used x-fire as a consolation. I was getting more appalled! This entire process of arguing back and forth and trips in & out of the manager’s office took about an hour. I was just getting ready to walk off the lot & they came back to me said I could have the car if I wanted it. I started yelling. "What are you talking about? Why did we have to go through this process?" Their answer was "we thought about it & we just wanted to do the right thing". Grrrr! The bottom line is: it was the end of the month & they didn't want to lose the sale (since I was inquiring about a car they didn't have on their lot). I wanted to tell them to shove it! just for principle! I know there wasn't a customer at another dealer that wanted that car. They were just playing me. I went against my gut and bought the car from them anyway. I didn't know if there were other cars out there with the colors & options I wanted so I didn’t want to take a chance. Plus, there were great rebates that month. Moral of the story: Don't buy from DAVID ELLIS CHRYSLER IN CANOGA PARK, CA. I wish I had a happy ending to this story but 48 hours after I drove the car off their lot.... it was in the shop (@ BURGE CHRYSLER in SANTA MONICA, CA) for 46 days & now I'm dealing with no return phone calls from the Chrysler rep and the CA lemon law.

My key wouldn't turn in the ignition. I have some (lengthy) posts (on the coupe section) about my dilema.

Sometimes it makes you wonder if they want to sell anything! My dealer was great and had the car in stock of the colour I wanted. But when bartering the price he said, "I'm the one doing all the budging here and you aren't giving me anything".

I replied with

"You are the one trying to sell me a car and if you don't give me x, y and z I won't take it"

He then gave in and I got the deal I wanted. :-)

Yea, salesmen are right up there with lawyers! I hate to group people together like that, but they open the door and get in all on their own!

Talking Re: STORY OF HOW I GOT MY ROADSTER

I was lucky enough to have a wonderful husband with the patience to shop for the best deal on the Crossfire. I wanted the Crossfire so BADDDD.... We had gone to local dealerships and I wanted to buy at the first dealership we went to...But my husband talked me into walking away from the dealership pouting to search for the best deal possible on the car. He came home and went on the internet and checked out all the rebates and invoice cost and came across Carmax in Norcross, Georgia 4 hours away from our home. They offered us a super deal. The car dealers were calling the house saying "that can't be a new car etc.....We can't even buy the Crossfire Coupe for that price. If you are getting that car for that price you are getting a great deal.". My husband is on the phone getting Carmax in Georgia to email the price in writing and convincing me that this is the place for us to go...We didnt realize that 3 Carmax Dealerships (LA, FL and GA) sold new cars. So off we went to Georgia to see the car that he had to assure me constantly was a good deal. Believe me when we got at the dealership it was all true....The car was gorgeous...The Salesman did exactly what he said..They gave me a great price for my trade in and we even got to enjoy the ride back in the most awsome car I had ever had. I got my wish in many ways...I got my dream car and my husband got to hear me say THAT HE WAS RIGHT....and that I will listen to him from now on!!!!!!!!!The internet is a wonderful tool for car buying and did I mention that I love my car...Well, I even got a personalized license plate that says wooowooo because I have never been happier at home and with my car..IM LUCKY and VERY FORTUNATE...

It is hard in the UK however I did some ringing around and the dealer near my house was charging nearly £3k more than a dealer 50 miles away. Suffice it to say you can guess where I got it from! The cheaper dealer also sorted me out with the boot cover at half price and had it fitted free of charge. You have to be tough with them and play one dealer off against another to get the best price. Even after all that, 3 weeks later Chrysler dropped the price! oh well.

Smile Re: STORY OF HOW I GOT MY ROADSTER

I love hearing the trials that you guys in the south have to go through just to get a Roadster. Up here in Michigan, now that we have had our first snow flurries, it's pretty easy to not only find just about any color that you want, but also get a pretty good deal as well.

I had just negotiated a good price on a new 2005 Grand Cherokee, which by the way is a VERY sweet SUV, and signed the papers on it. I then left my wife to take delivery on it. I took off to go back to work and her only job was to take the Jeep home. When I got to the office I had a voice-mail from her saying she had the Jeep home and had just put a deposit on a red Roadster because the lease payment was going to be less than on my Sebring Coupe. What's a guy to do? It took all my nerve to ask her if she minded if I got the black one instead. Both were equiped the same. So I am now, very reluctantly of course, driving a black Roadster. With the heated seats and the heater going, the top still comes down in November when the temperature hits 50 and the sun is shinning.

Thumbs up Re: STORY OF HOW I GOT MY ROADSTER

Wow, just reading this thread in the last minute has made the Forum membership invaluable; first I read about the wife who has a husband being very patient about getting the best deal and he is successful in getting a 'great' deal and she is unbelievably happier and the luckiest wife alive;
Then I read about the guy who just sent his wife to take delivery of a new Jeep Cherokee and by the time she leaves the dealership she has put a deposit down on leasing a new Xfire roadster. He feels he's the luckiest guy around.

I agree with both and now wonder if next I will be hearing about the couple who both decide on purchasing "his" & "hers" Xfires simply because they couldn't make up their mind on the colour choice.

Now that wouldn't be too bad but really.................?
