Rear window detachment - tsb 23-035-11
My 2005 roadster with only 12k miles and garaged always, dropped back window 2 weeks ago, read forum to fix but decided to replace with old fashion plastic window, cost $400.oo because had to remove top to sew in, but good for the life of top which is in great condition. Sold back window on e bay for $125.00 + shipping to Texas Crossfire owner.
Chrysler wrote the Service Bulletin/Warranty Extension, not the customers. They did this in 2011, over 2 years after the problem began, probably to avoid a potential recall from the NHTSA, in case anyone was ever physically injured. Since then, the NHTSA has turned a blind eye. The FTC basically said Chrysler's discriminatory policy is not worth their time or "resources". Our government in action?!? Waiting for Calif. Dept. of Consumer Affairs to answer why we & 40 other States got the shaft?!? Chrysler will not officially try to explain because they know there is No justification in fact. Looks like they are going to get away with it.
My Crossfire had the same issue with the back window detaching while I was on the highway. This was a few years back. Chrysler would not cover it even though I HAD the extended warranty. It cost me over $3000 to get a new top put on, as no one wated to fix the window. I live in FL and when I called their customer service they said that it was too hot in FL for the glue. ??? Did they intend for their convertibles to be bought solely in Alaska?
Anyway, I've read that now they are covering this issue. Wish they would have covered mine.
My car has had so many issues that now I've paid more for repairs than what the car cost me. I still love it, though. Scarlet, as I call her, will hopefully be with me for a long time.

I'll try to find where I read it. I also spoke to a person who had the same issue here in my city and they got a letter from Chrysler saying that they were now taking care of this issue. Perhaps they are getting the message that this is not normal. The glue shouldn't just come undone. I can understand wear and tear and mechanical issues as with any car part, but the window detaching because of the glue, that's a problem. As in my case, I could have killed someone. My window detached while I was on I-95 driving at 70 mph. That's a real danger!
I'll look for where I read it and post it here once I do.

Chrysler has never publicly published their Official justification because they Know that it would not hold up under scrutiny. Last year their verbal "goodwill" offer to us was to cover $900 of the $2,400 total. The telephone representative said they would not negotiate or put it in writing, not even in "e-mail" form, and the offer would expire in 90 days. We were always willing to pay a reasonable co-pay, the ball was in their court and they ignored that option. The simple truth is by late 2011, they had to do something Official, they chose 9 States to limit their costs, and our Government at all levels does not want to do anything about it. Public Servants??? We will fight at least until our "10 year" period from our purchase expires next year. "We the People" should be protected by law from such completely unfair business practice by any industry. Chrysler should be forced to stand behind their own Warranty Extension/Service Bulletin remedy! (There is no extended warranty anyone could purchase for the detached window defect, this IS a matter of a manufacturer having to "step up to the plate" for it's specified term)..
CORRECTION: OFFER EXPIRED IN 30 DAYS; CHRYSLER CLEARLY DID NOT WANTTO PUT ANY EVIDENCE IN WRITING ABOUT HELPING OWNER OUT OF THEIR SELECTED AREA

The Chrysler warranty gets weirder and weirder. Looks like to be warranted you have to be not only where it is hot, but where it is humid. And yes what happened to Mississippi? Also what about Nevada and Arizona where it is plenty hot but low humidity. Very strange indeed.
Please help, if you would. Ask NHTSA to hold a hearing to require Chrysler to notify ALL Roadster owners of the potential for window detachment. Because Chrysler saw it necessary for some, they should have notified all, even if they were not offering their remedy to all, (DOT requirement). @ safercar.gov
PLEASE and THANK YOU!

I have an 06 in Louisiana, I contacted the local service manager for the region. would not replace it since it was not an 05, he did replace the top for half price, aprox $900. The new top is identical to the old one, hope it doesn't fall out again in 7 years!
