New Owner Questions
This is follow up to this thread.
I have few questions that i was hoping you guys can answer for me:
1. One of the wheels has slights discoloration, is this normal? (See pix)
2. Rust i see in the engine (belt poleys) is pretty much normal due to steel parts? (See pix)
3. The only actual rust i found is under rear license plate and around trunk latch, is this a concern and if so what do i do? (See pix)
4. I see some condescension inside of the both head lights, it comes and goes , don't stay put. Could be from weather and me washing it with hot water in cold (55f) garage. Normal or should i be concerned? (See pix)
5. I heard something about car seats heaters going bad and something with ignition switch going bad, should this be replaced/modified now or wait till it actually breaks?
6. I'm a big guy, does seat automatically stops when you move it back? I can press it but i feel like its going to crush something and i definitely don't want to crush anything.
7. Vehicle had trainy flush and radiator flush when previous owner bought it in 2010, since then he put on 6k miles on it. He changed oil last full before putting her to rest for the winter. Break fluid or anything else is all original. Should i replace any fluids at this time?
8. What does MDH number mean on my door sticker with my Vin#?

yes but i have no intentions driving this in the winter or rain. this car might of seen its first snow and salt today.
Good Luck SLY ...... here's my take on your questions. Hopefully others will chime in. You are on the best forum..... have fun
This is follow up to this thread.
I have few questions that i was hoping you guys can answer for me:
1. One of the wheels has slights discoloration, is this normal? (See pix)Try rubbing it out with something like Mequairers scratchX
2. Rust i see in the engine (belt poleys) is pretty much normal due to steel parts? (See pix)Pretty normal for cars that have been living where salt is used
3. The only actual rust i found is under rear license plate and around trunk latch, is this a concern and if so what do i do? (See pix)Best to have this area de-rusted by someone. when you see a little rust like this, its like the tip of an iceberg in many cases. A lot hidden underneath. A thorough examination of all the areas prone for rust should be done, including the underside.
4. I see some condescension inside of the both head lights, it comes and goes , don't stay put. Could be from weather and me washing it with hot water in cold (55f) garage. Normal or should i be concerned? (See pix)Possibly that might be the cause, but in the mean time check to see if there are holes in back of the headlights, near where the channel of the inside of the fender leads to the headlight. Sometimes these vent plugs are gone, and moisture just runs down the fender channel and into the headlight.
5. I heard something about car seats heaters going bad and something with ignition switch going bad, should this be replaced/modified now or wait till it actually breaks?Don't fix anything thats not broken in this case.
6. I'm a big guy, does seat automatically stops when you move it back? I can press it but i feel like its going to crush something and i definitely don't want to crush anything. You basically won't crush anything except the back of the seat. Its best to leave a small amount of space so there is no tension in the seat mechanics.
7. Vehicle had trainy flush and radiator flush when previous owner bought it in 2010, since then he put on 6k miles on it. He changed oil last full before putting her to rest for the winter. Break fluid or anything else is all original. Should i replace any fluids at this time?If you have actual documentation that the proper procedures and MB spec transmission and radiator fluid was used, you should be good to go with them. Documentation or proof that the proper oil and oil filter was used would be great, or you would be best to change the oil with Mobil 1, 0-40 and a "fleece" filter.
8. What does MDH number mean on my door sticker with my Vin#???? I'll wait for an answer for this..

MDH = month day hour
It seem unusual to me, for rust to be on underside of the hatch like that. Hopefully your car wasn't from a state that could have had a salt water flood from a storm.

Thank you for your input. There is no documentation for any service events. Previous owner did his own oil change and he used exact oil you suggested as he told the type to use. I'm not sure what fleece filter mean but i'm sure i'll find answer to that on here somewhere.
here is that number on the sticker that im not sure what it means:
so i take it my car was assembled November 15, 2004 at 2PM? Germans must love exact time frames or what to put exact time when they built it. never seen this before.
i think water gets to that latch area from rain. i washed the car and it was wet there. and i only used wet microfiber towel, not even a hose. according to carfax and autocheck, car never left state of OH. it was pretty much in Cleveland area first 4 year of its life and than it was in Canfield area and not its in Cortland. I've never heard of floods in upper Ohio. I know southern parts get hit with floods but not us.

May be a stolen car! Somebody scratched out the VIN !
And welcome to the forum. Lots of reading for you to do here if you want to know more than where the gas pedal is...

i checked it out and there is no signs of rust there.
My thoughts on a few of the issues you are concerned with,
As for the wheels I bought a set of used wheels that had a little curb rash on them and the owner sanded it out with some fine sandpaper which left marks that look a lot like that, so I am assuming that is what happened there so a little touch up paint may have to be used to cover up that spot.
I don't think there is anything out of the order for the rust on the pulleys for a car that has sat a lot of winter months in a garage in NE Ohio.
The rust around the liscence plate holes is probably from the plate itself and should clean up easily, the rust around the latch I would check out pretty closely as you may have a leak in the trunk seal that is letting water collect in there.
looks nice I am sure you will enjoy it
just my opinions, which might not be worth much, but I don't charge much for them
