Default Pennzoil 0W-40

Went to Pep Boys to get oil as I had to change mine. They didn't have Mobil 1 but they did have Pennzoil 0W-40 which I've never seen before. Claims it is recommended for SRT engines. Was also nearly $1 a quart cheaper than the Mobil 1.

Did it have the MB numbers on it?
If not, I'd avoid it. Was it the full synthetic?

Pennzoil Ultra Euro 0W40 is on the list... if that is what you are talking about, fine!
If it's on one of these two lists, you are ok:

MB 229.5 - Multigrade engine oils (Specification 229.5) - Mercedes-Benz Specifications for Operating Fluids
MB 229.3 - Multigrade engine oils (Specification 229.3) - Mercedes-Benz Specifications for Operating Fluids

Other than I hate Pennzoil! the deposits I have seen in Heads and blocks for cars that ran Pennzoil has made me vow to never touch their products.

Don't recall if the M-B part #s were on it but yes it's full synthetic so we'll see how it goes. 90,000 miles on the car now. Should take me to 97,000.

I was having some difficulty deciphering the oil specs on Pennzoil's pages so I did a little digging. There must be some formula differences between the Ultra and the Ultra Euro. Even though there own tech sheets contradicts that fact. The Ultra 0W-40 Full Synth Technical Data Sheet states:

PENNZOIL ULTRA™ FULL SYNTHETIC MOTOR OIL with Hyper Cleansing Technology™ is compatible with all
engine sealing materials, other synthetic oils and all conventional oils and is suitable for all cars, SUV’s, light vans and
trucks, gasoline and turbocharged engines, under all driving conditions where an API SN, SAE 0W-40 oil may be
recommended. Not for use in Porsche, Mercedes-Benz, BMW and other European engines.
Pennzoil Ultra TM is specifically formulated for the needs of Chrysler SRT engines where Chrysler MS-12633 oil is
required. It may also be used in SRT engines originally recommending Chrysler MS-10725 oil.
GPCDOC_X_cbe_24855_key_140007304050_201207271338.pdf

Yet Pennzoil shows that the Chrysler MS-10725 spec is compatible with MB 229.5 spec.

Pennzoil Ultra Full Synthetic Motor Oil - Pennzoil

From what I understand, Chrysler dealers now use the Ultra Euro 5W-40 exclusively for the Xfires.

??????????

I am just guessing here but this may be a case of the Penzoill marketing and sales department over riding the technical people to garner sales for the two grades of 0W-40 oils.
Also corporate agreements made some time back may now be void with new agreements in effect. If you want to sell a so called Euro oil you certainly do not want people using your other brand that you say is for SRT engines. The SRT6 is a fly in the ointment but most people will be ignorant of previous recommendations. Take the previous recommendations for the Crossfire out of the equation and it would all make sense.

And on a side note, Pennzoil claims that their Ultra keeps pistons up to 25% CLEANER THAN MOBIL 1.

Pennzoil Ultra Full Synthetic Motor Oil - Pennzoil

And that the Ultra Euro is The only motor oil exclusively recommended by Ferrari North America.
