Default Ultimate Roadster Mod...

I saw this while browsing the S2000 forum. There is a guy who has an S2000 and modified his wind deflector to look like this:

You can change that color to anything you would like, and he also has it wired so that it turns to bright red when you hit the brake... If I had a roadster, I would pay anything for this mod... I haven't contacted him about making one for the Crossfire or anything, but if you want, his AIM SN is MacGyverS2000, and his e-mail is MacGyverS2000@netscape.net.

It would have helped if one of you guys had given me a link to this forum I had to run through the Google gauntlet and guess as to which site was hosting the members emailing me

Anyway, I'll try and recap what I mentioned to Tony in my email, as well as add in a few things...

I'm an electrical engineer by trade, but the dot com and telecomm bust of the late 90's and early 00's put a serious hurtin' on me. So, long story short, I decided to take some of my pet projects off of the drawing board and offer them up to the masses.

The lighted windscreen was the first to hit the market, albeit in an unofficial sense. It has gone through several versions since its introduction, beginning with a controller that required a screwdriver to adjust the color content, to its current digital form. The latest release allows smooth color cycling displaying the entire rainbow of colors, turns red when you hit the brakes, white when you place it into reverse, etc.

As I mentioned to Tony, the install was somewhat application specific with each install being unique to the vehicle (I have instructions online for the S2000 and 350Z). This creates a logistical nightmare for me, so I tend not to push that specific product very hard. Since I never took it into full production, the controller case is a hand-cut project case that fits in the palm of your hand. However, I still have a large number of controllers on hand, and I will warranty them the same as any production unit I would sell. Fair warning, though... installation can be anywhere from a 2-8 hour affair... it all depends on how easy your car is to crack open.

Some of my other products (and cool pics) can be seen on our website:
http://www.Hi-TecDesigns.com
We're not "official" until November 2nd (when our print ads hit the news stands), and the e-cart is still under development. I've successfully done business for well over a year, though, using PayPal nd Cashier's Checks... so far, ALL business has come by word of mouth. I'm happy to say, as far as I'm aware, there is not a SINGLE unhappy customer out there. Problems are resolved promptly, and feedback is always welcome.

The Minis are a product we have on hand and ready to ship, with the remaining products scheduled to be ready by the time we go public. The Minis are ideal for lighting up really tight areas like door handles, maplight replacements (I offer Socket Modules that allow you to simply remove your stock bulb and snap in a Mini, no wiring or soldering required), A/C vents, trunks, etc. They measure less than 1.3" x 0.6", are only 0.25" thick, and they're so bright you won't want to look at them directly even in bright sunlight (I'm going to need eyeball replacements before I hit 40 from all of my accidental exposures ).

Anyway, I'll try to check back on this forum from time to time (especially over the next few days as I know question will come up), but if you have any specific questions, feel free to email them.

Oh, thought you might want to see some other images. These were taken with Minis lighting up various areas (one Mini in each footwell, and four Minis under the hood).

These are animated GIFs of several still images taken of them in operation. During the actual color cycling mode, the fade from one color to the next is silky smooth and covers the entire rainbow.

For those who have asked about pricing...

The windscreen light kit is $120 shipped. However, I will require some information about your car before I can tailor the system to it. Someone will need to tear apart the area around the screen so I can determine where the LEDs might be placed.

The first person to create a nice online install manual will receive 35% of their purchase price in credit towards purchase of any of our other products. If they wish to exend that into a true installation manual (such as what is found for the S2000 and 350Z, as on our webpage), they would receive 55% of the purchase price in store credit. I offer incentives like this to give those enterprising individuals out there a chance to save some money while also becoming an online hero

A few pics of the windscreen area would certainly make things easier. I've never seen a Crossfire close up, even though neighbors across the way from me picked one up a few weeks ago. See if you can determine how the windscreen edge can be approached. The LEDs need to point into the screen edge for them to light it up.

One caveat I should mention. For the S2000, the stock screen (as well as a larger replacement screen provided by a fellow owner) worked quite well for this applicaton. The 350Z screen, however, caused problems due to a slight tint in the glass. The light was not able to properly light up the Z symbol through the tinting, so people who wanted this also had to replace their screens with a glass known as Sapphire (it's ultra clear).

No, it's actually a piece of glass that goes between the rollbars in the back to stop wind from entering the passenger compartment while driving. The Crossfire doesn't come with it stock, so one will have to be fabricated I guess. I would think this would be easy to accomplish, but I don't have experience with it.

Well, the one at MyRoadster.net certainly would make it easy to reach the edge of the screen Obviously you would want to fabricate some sort of an enclosure to protect the area around the LEDs, and that can be as dirty and simple or clean and complex as you want it to be.

For logos, the frosted glass-style stickers work quite well, and you can pick them up at just about any local sign shop. You can use one of their fonts/images, or bring in a vector format font/image and have something custom made up.

I originally thought the windscreen was a stock item on the Crossfire, so I needed pics of the area to help determine how difficult getting to the windscreen edge would be. Now that I know the piece is completely aftermarket, that's no longer an issue.

Because the screen edge is completely exposed, it will be up to the installer to determine optimum placement of the LEDs. My suggestion would be along the bottom edge. The only issue to take care of at that point would be running the necessary wires and enclosing the LEDs to prevent them from getting knocked around.

Normally I would suggest my original "prototype" style controller, but I'm thinking the electronics from my Brakelight Tube (sans the actual tube) would be better suited. The PCB measures less than 1.6" x 0.6", is only 0.25" thick, and could easily be hidden along the bottom of the screen.

MacGyver,
I not sure about the other guys, but I was looking for the complete package to easily install the lights onto the pexiglass windscreen. I was hoping all the fabrication would be included in the price...al we would need to do is install it on the windscreen and wire it up!
The enclosure would be part of your complete package.
