I absolutely agree with you that the exclusivity factor is one of the major attractions of this car. Everywhere I look I see 350Z and corvettes. The new Z06 would smoke my 2000 viper rt/10, but I love that viper.... The 05 srt-6 will give that 350z a run for its money every time, granted the srt-6 did cost more, but it seems the 350z owners don't know when their in over their heads. Of course the SRT-6 won't keep up with the new corvette, but it I don't mind. It is one fun car.

 

Are you with the VCA or Alley? What Chapter of the VCA if so?

I am sure the Crossfire is not selling because of the poor engine offered, its small exterior/interior size with little visibility and its rear boat tail design. I wish it had a performance motor and was longer, other than that I love it so much.

 

As of today, what is the best price that anyone has received/seen? Who did you get it from or where did you see the ad?

I am looking to buy an '05 Roadster Limited 6 spd with 2 tone interior. Black - Dark Slate Gray/Vanilla and don't want to make a deal and then find deep discounts such as those on the '04s.

But in answer to the question under wonbadappl's signature, here is another question to ponder.

Why do we Drive on the parkway and Park in the driveway?

 

In NY the car your describing is going for between $35,000 and $36,500. You don't say if you want the Nav system and the performance tires which are basically the only two other factory installed options. Mine didn't have the performance tires but had the Nav and went for $36,500 in March. I've seen others advertised for $34,995 now but don't know if they had the Nav, I believe they did. Your combination is beautiful just like Roberts. Good luck with it.

 

I can't believe that someone would compare a GM corvette to a car built by MB. It's not even in the same league of durability or engineering design.

Now some owners might be PISSED that they bought before the price drop, like I did. But I lucked out because I got mine through employee purchase. Dad retired from Chrysler.

 

Before someone bites my head off, let me say I am a great fan of the Crossfire and love the car, but there are a few items to point out as to why most people would pick a Corvette instead.

The Crossfire is sold and serviced by Chrysler, which alone keeps many people out of the showroom. For those that see the "small" sporty looking car at the dealership, many are turned off the by the MSRP. Whoever heard (up until just recently) of paying $34-35k for a Chrysler product?

Very poor marketing, most people still have no idea what a Crossfire is or how it performs.

The Crossfire is not built by MB, it is built by Karmann Coach Works and only 40% or so of the car is made up of true MB parts.

For a car that is based on the SLK320 which has been in production since the mid 90's, the TSB list is rapidly growing very long. Also a lot of car people are turned off by the so called old technology. It is well documented that MB has been suffering serious quality control issues for the past 8-10 years.

As stated elsewhere, the Crossfire is a small car and does not accommodate large people very well. A Honda Civic is roomier than the Crossfire.

The Crossfire with a 215 hp engine and 229 lb-ft torque does not do it for many folks. The added price of the SRT-6 brings the price of the car closer to the base Corvette.

People who buy a Corvette for the most part, want a piece of an American built automotive icon.

It takes a certain kind of person to purchase a Crossfire, someone that is different from all the other clones walking around out there. Remember the old sports cars of the 50's when they first started to show up here? They too took a special kind of person to own one.

I could go on but you get the idea. The Crossfire is a certain kind of car for a certain type of person. I have mine and it would not hurt my feelings at all if they stopped building them last week. I like very much being one of only a handful of people that own one.

How much did you end up paying for the roadster if you don't mind?

 

While I agree about the poor use of getting the word out on the Crossfire and the lack of power in the base Crossfire, your other points seem to be a little off.

As per the "Parts Content Information" sticker mine says U.S./Canadian Parts = 1%. Since the car is assembled in Germany I would assume the majority of the 99% for the rest of the parts are German. This would go along with the fact I have yet to find a major part on the car without a 3 pointed star symbol and a MB part number right next to it.

As for the MB quality issues, from my own experience owning a '02 the vast majority of the problems have to do with the poorly tested new electronic gizmo's they put into some of their cars. Engine and transmission wise the units used in the base Crossfire and SRT-6 are tried and true. Since my SRT-6 does not have a pano-roof or Distronic, I have little fear the electronic gremlins that effected my MB will cause many problems in my SRT-6.

 

Corvettes doesn't really attract me...the Viper does! Mine has been serviced by Mercedes and they acknowledge that my XFIREX is a Mercedes too!

Civic and Crossfire...no comparison at all! That point ruins your credibility about cars and you are just a plain Crossfire hater because you can't own one!

 

I sure hope they don't discontinue this vehicle. I have yet to purchase one and have been juggling around which car to get until the Crossfire caught my eye. I've looked at many different cars but always came back to the Crossfire.

Any work on if the Firepower will have a convertible model? Or is this just going to be a concept car that is never put on the market?

 

Cyril, I think you're off base on this one. I don't see where there was an attempt at a direct road test comparison between the Crossfire and the Civic. All that was said was, the Civic is roomier, with which I agree. Because someone posts a different view than you, doesn't make them a Crossfire hater. And why would you make an unfounded statement that the author of the post in question doesn't own one? Read the original post again and check out the last sentence. If there is a credibility issue here, I'm sorry to say it's your post. Come on, lighten up dude.

 

This is very true Mercedes and BMW have had electronic issues with all the new gadgets they are putting on their cars. That has hurt their reliability somewhat. But otherwise these are still very fine machines and to have some of those parts in our Crossfires is nothing but positive.

 

Just bought a crossfire limited roaster today, aero blue two tone interior. The total price for car including taxes, tags, etc was $32,322.69. I also ordered the srt-6 rims an the all weather rubber floor mats. The total price for those two $1525.00 plus tax. I think i can get the same price if anyone is interested. My number is 1-540-981-1380, I live in Virginia.

 

That's the best price I've heard yet. That is for an '05 model and New not Used? There isn't a car on the planet that's worth that price more than the one you got. Nothing compares to it at that price. The quality of workmanship and materials is impeccable and the drive is superb. I enjoy mine more each time I drive it and wash it. I really feel this car has a tremendous potential for collectability due mostly to its dual citizenship and unique style. At that price you stole the car. Enjoy it.

 

For those of you looking for Limited Roadsters and SRT6 roadsters, Carmax out here in the L.A. area has two Limited Roadsters - an aero blue manual and a graphite auto for $32,909 and $32,389, as well as a graphite SRT-6 roadster for $43,629. There's also a used graphite SRT6 roadster at their Nevada location with 4K miles on it for $35,998. They're one of those "no-haggle" type of retailers, and you can check them out at carmax.com - and I don't work there - I'm just passing on the info since I can't afford to get one yet.
