Default Oil Can on the odometer

Hi all!

I had a oil can flickering on in the morning when I started up my car. And so it was time to change the oil. After I got the oil changed I noticed that the Hi with a small oil can comes on ever so often and it wipes out my mileage on the car along with the trip miles. It will beep at me and blink on and off the oil can and Hi. Then it goes away and my mileage comes back on.

I'm wondering if the guy that changed my oil forgot to update my electronic brain????

Can someone tell me if that is probably the case?

Thanks,

Cheryl

Open the hood and check with the dipstick the level of your oil. You may have too much oil in the crankcase. If it is at the very top of the plastic tip on the end of the dipstick some of the oil will need to be removed. The easiest way is to suction it out through the dipstick tube.

Shops seem to put too much in and then charge for a extra quart. I usually put in about 7 quarts, idle, shut down for a few minutes, then top off to the 3/4 mark. Seems happy ("OK").

In many instances too much oil is worse than not enough. Who did your oil change? Chances are they put the extra, left over half quart in rather than dispose of it?

It's eight quarts, not eight and 1/2 quarts (which is what the service manual and the computers at service shops say). They put too much in. Iv'e been doing my own oil changes since 2009. I put in eight quarts, period. If I put in 8 1/2, I get the HI alarm just like you are. This was the case with all three Roadsters. My current SE lit the "HI" light on the way home when I bought it, cause the former owner went to PEP BOYS.
