Question about Fuel Type...
Is it better to use 93 Octane with Ethanol or 90 Octane without Ethanol? I know they say to use premium. Any thoughts, ideas or input would be greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance.

i was told by a family friend (1 of the top mechanics at a jeep/dodge dealer) that i would not notice very little if any at all if i didnt use premium, unless im out racing or driving the **** out of it. But however ask 3 mechanics get 3 different answers , so who knows.
A lot of people only have 89 and 91 octane available. I think they use the 91 octane. I have 93 octane available in my local so that's what I use. It has much more ingredients to fight sludge, carbon buildup, engine knock, and so on, so for as little as I drive my XF, I prefer to use the 93. Shell V-POWER. I also only buy my gas at a Shell station. Some other brands may be just as good but, again, my preference is for Shell 93 octane. The car runs beautifully, has not met a hill that it can't level, and the exhaust pipes are very clean. I also use one of Needswings oil catch cans. Everybody should have those on their engine. Car runs much better.
Just my humble opinion.

I suspect the effect of the oil catch can is imagined, it does stop oil going into the engine though. I would imagine that regular and super gas has just the same additives to keep the engine clean. I use Shell 93 octane as it has no ethanol in it. I doubt I could tell the difference between 89 and 93 octane fuel in a blind test.
If Canada can do just fine on "no ethanol" for their enviroment, I don't understand why the U.S.can't also. More government over management. Give's the clowns in Washington D.C. something to justify their jobs.

I agree
As long as you run fresh 93 fuel with ethanol regularly, it shouldn't be a problem. The problem is when Ethanol sits for a long period and absorbs water out of the atmosphere. I personally would choose the 90 w/o Ethanol and add 16 to 24oz. of Torco accelerator to a tankful to bump up the octane a bit, because mine sits for very long periods between use. The downside is that it adds $10.-$15. per tank. So if you daily drive it, you may not want to spend the extra money. When I occasionally track the car, I add an entire quart to tank. Or I use the Ethanol free race gas at the track; and I DO notice the difference. As I understand it, the extra octane is also good insurance for not going lean @ w.o.t. . You'd be fine with just 90 w/o ethanol. Or use the 93, and then fill it up with Ethanol free if it gets put away for the winter. I sure wish we had 93 Ethanol free here for daily use!
