Default Fuel pump or Fuel pump relay?

Hey guys ..

My 04 crossfire suddenly shutsdown and when i tried to turn it on, everything looked fine and the ignition worked like it's almost alive but eventually it's not. I left it there and came back to it the next day and it got alive in the first try. However, i drove it for few miles then the same thing happened again!!
I red this nice thread

Which descuss the same problem and with the same symptoms my car has
but i want to make sure before i proceed with it that problem is really the fuel pump relay and not the feul pump itself so i can order the right part

Is there any way i can know for sure which part is the problem?

When you turn ignition on and the dash lights come on but no cranking from the starter, possibly the radiator fan blowing at full speed. That means the RCM (Relay control module) solder joints need resoldering. You can do two things, purchase a new RCM Part # A 170 545 03 05 that is a Mercedes Benz part or remove, disassemble the module, unsolder the connections and resolder. The dealer is must likely not willing or able to do this work, they rather sell you a new one. I rebuild this units and have two available.

Could be the CPS. Check HERE.

Could be the actual fuel pump relay located in the RCM. Open the RCM and check to see if the contacts close when you turn the key to the On position for the Fuel Pump Relay #4 in the photo.
If not, manually close the contacts and see if the car starts. If it does the coil in the relay is most likely bad.
I and others can repair this for ya.

If the engine cranks over but no start it could be the Fuel pump relay, the fuel pump itself or the Crank angle sensor. Did it set any Check Engine codes?

You should be able to turn the key to the "run" position - two clicks over without going to "start".. and you should be able to hear the fuel pump run for a second or two. Might help isolate whether this is fuel or CPS related. Reading the check engine light code would also be helpful.

Most GM cars have an "Assembly Line Prime Connector", a wire with a green connector just loose under the hood that goes directly to the fuel pump. Very handy for troubleshooting as you can put power to the fuel pump without turning anything on or monitor for power when you turn the key. Does the Crossie have anything like that ?

ps if the engine shut down "like a switch" the problem is usually in the ignition or the fuel injector circuit. A fuel pump or clogged filter will usual struggle a bit.
