Default convertible top help pt.2

I've gone through pizzaguy's checklist but i don't see my exact problem.after undoing the d ring nothing happens;no beep, windows don't drop and you can't hear the pump working.i swapped out the switch in the windshield with a known working one from another local crossfire.checked all fuses and there is no water in the trunk either.divider is in position.battery is about two months old and the top worked three days ago.the top switch blinks constantly while driving but stops blinking once the car is shut off.anyone have ideas??🤔

Blinking while driving means the system sees a fault. If the light is on but not blinking while sitting still (but engine on), then the cycle did not complete the last time the top was put up and that is your fault.
If it does NOT stay on while stationary, the fault could be that the cycle didn't complete OR that the TCM sees something else it does not like (what, I do not know).

I don't remember where we were with this (because you started a new thread - that only makes helping you harder) but if the windows do not go down when you turn the "D" handle, either switch in the windshield frame is bad or the TCM is bad or the BCM is confused.

I'd try re-syncing the top if you have not done that. Start engine, put top down then up completely three times (including turning the hex-head bolt in the trunk).

thanks for the reply.the light on the switch blinks both while moving and when it's stationary.the switch above the windshield is good as i swapped it in another local crossfire;my switch worked on his car and when i put his switch in my car it was the same result.i will try what you said and cycle the top manually.i'll report back.thanks again.

when you go to move the top manually notice the latch position of the rear bow. the weatherstrip should be pulled firm against the tonneau cover. if it's not check for hydraulic fluid leaking from the main cylinders and make sure you manually latch that rear bow to prevent water entry.

I do not have any experience with roadsters. With that out of the way, how are you proving the windshield switch is operating correctly? Are you checking it in place with the top latched, and then with the top unlatched? Meaning you can check a switch for continuity and not know if it is actually tripping when in the open/closed position (clicked either open or closed when in its respective position). OK, that's my question, hope it helps!

I don't want to start a different thread but I am having the same kind of problem on my 2005 roadster. I just had a new top put on. Now windows won't go down when I release the "D" ring. They do go down when I push the top down button. Then I get the beep but no other action. The rear divider is in position, the trunk is closed securely. I can put my pinkie finger in the passenger side windshield frame groove and feel the switch and move the pad up. I did that and one time the windows went down when I released the "D" ring but it hasn't happened again. Can I spray the switch with contact cleaner safely without harming the switch? Manually I can lock and unlock the bow lock with the 6MM allen, but when I try to raise the bow manually it seems the cylinders keep pressure and resistance against the bow frame so I cannot get to the deck lid unlock groove with my release 10MM tool. I have tried relieving the pressure to the system a multitude of times without success.
The top button flashes continuously while driving so I am guessing the windshield switch is malfunctioning and or the TCM and BCM have lost sync. I have read the threads about re-syncing the two modules by raising and lowering the top with the car running but with the bow stuck I'm at a loss on how to proceed.
Help Pizzaguy!!

So, I had the 80K mile maintenance done on our car last week. The mechanic checked the reservoir of fluid for the top and found it to be less than half of normal. They added fluid to fill it up. There were no codes.

My wife tested the mechanism afterwards and found that it would start & slowly open up and then stalled when the trunk started to open. She then reversed the process and it went back to the closed position (it moved very slowly in starts & stops). So, any recommendations?

Sounds like you have a hydraulic leak. Check the main cylinders for a leak.

That was my thought, too. Is there a process posted somewhere or at least a schematic of the system? Thanks!

Pop the trunk, move the divider forward and to the left and right you'll see the cylinders. There is a black bracket with a gold nut that the bottom of the cylinders go into. Under that see if there is fluid leaking down the rubber mat.

You'll need the convertible top latch release to. How mechanical are you? There some stuff in there that if broken can be hard too find to replace.

Hehe, I’m more of a tech guy; however, I have a decent amount of tools and knowledge. I just don’t want to miss something that a professional would easily see. I also want to be sure that I have the tools and parts that I might need.

Thanks!
