better question is why not crossfire?

350Z looks good, great engine, crappy build quality.
new SLK, too expensive but nice.
Mustang, you must be kidding, solid rear axle = tractor, crappy and cheap build quality.
the crossfire has no direct competitors in my opinion.
and ignore people that say it's not a sports car.
anything that is that low, 2 seater, with 0 - 60 in 6.5 is a sports car whether you like it or not.
just because some cars are faster doesn't mean this one is so bad.
more torque than boxster or Z4.

Your exactly right...couldn't have said it better...I still think this sweet little car gets somehow put to the side and forgotten about. I know this has been said a million times, but if more people knew of the car, drove the car and were better informed about the great prices offered on it right now, then you would definitely see an increase in sales. The new SLK is nice, but way too expensive for me. Mustang is a really sharp car but it is a Ford...enough said. The 350Z to me is not a good looking car...had one park next to my Crossfire a few days ago and it definitely is not attractive in my eyes. Feel the same way about the Z4...just not a good design.

I keep finding this "is it sports car" question kind of amusing. If it quacks like a duck...well you know. Since when did the measure of a sports car come from drag strip numbers? This car corners with the big dogs. Has brakes that really lean you into your seat belt. 0-60? Who cares? 35 to 85 is a far more relevant number for a sports car and here our ride does just fine. If you want to compare it with cars for 35K and down few cars can jump it coming out of the corners. Few cars can enter as hot either. Sure does quack like a duck. Add to that its good looks and good manners. Yeah, why not buy one?

I've driven a Boxter, and worked on one quite a bit for a friend... and let me tell you, its VERY high maintenance. Parts are seriously expensive, and after all the custom exhaust and air intakes systems, my Crossfire is still quicker. Granted a new Boxter is much faster than say the 99' - 01' models, but the price of the newer ones is way out of the park.

For the money invested, you can't get a more exclusive, sexy car...

OK, I've read all of the comments here (both pro and con) and think it all comes down to what moves you.

As a female owner of a '05 Crossfire Limited Roadster I have to say I LOVE the car. I don't have much experience with sports car in general, but I do know what i like, and this car really does something to me! Its rock solid ... quick ... agile ... well appointed ... and looks like a million bucks. I looked at several other cars in this price range and just didn't get the same feeling that I got when I checked out the Alabaster and Vanilla roadster on my dealers showroom. I love the fact that you don't see many of them, (I've never seen another white on white one) and I always get people stopping to ask me what it is, but that is all part of the fun. There is nothing better than opening it up on a nice day for a little topless driving to make you feel alive.

As far as it being the best car ever made ... maybe not. But I plan to have mine for many years to come, and enjoy it more with every ride. If they discontinue them after this year, so be it. I got mine!!!

Enjoy!

And the real question isn't "Why Crossfire". It's "Hardtop or Roadster?"

Along the lines of having people stop to ask what my XFire is...last night I had to make a stop at the local Best Buy. When I pulled into a space in the parking lot a Lexus pulled in the space immediately to my left (driver's side).

I opened my door at the same time the passenger stepped out of the Lexus. He was looking at the car and asked me who the manufacturer is. I told him the car is a Chrysler Crossfire w/ Mercedes heritage. He had all kinds of questions about the price, engine, etc. He was really taken with the car. He wanted to look in the interior of the car and then I volunteered to let him see the engine compartment.

As his English wasn't the best (driver only said a couple of words and he was very difficult to understand), I knew he wasn't an American. As it turns out the passenger and the driver are both from Korea. Gauging from their car, I presume that it wasn't a rental car, but they are here on some kind of business.

I definitely was grilled about the car.

Why argue about weather it's a sports car or not?
It's very simple...It's a luxury sports coupe. You get the best of both worlds.

I'm thinking about buying one but on here researching it's reliability and the cost of maintenance.

ditto.

And to he/she who started this thread, consider the exclusivity factor. How many other Xfire's do YOU see on the road? I see RX-8's, 350z's, etc. all over the place, but rarely another XF.

As for it being a "sports car", get over it people. "Sport" is in the mind. It feels "sporty" to me, and looks darn good.

0-60 not fast enough? Bah. When some punk pulls up and beside at a light I just lean back, drive normal, and let HIM rip up his tires! And I'm usually very nice and wave to him on the roadside up ahead as he's signing his name on the police man's nice carbonless multi-part form...

ROFL! My sentiments about the "police man's nice carbonless multi-part form".
