Default Trunk safety release broken ?

2005 limited
I have been having top and spoiler issues. Flashing spoiler light.
beeping top switch when I press it.
windows go down when I release the D-RING.
years ago I took the panel off covering the spoiler motor and may have messed up the safety release cable.
the arm in these pictures is one end connects the release handle the other end idk. There is no resistance when pulling the cable. I think the end of the arm is supposed to be attached to SOMETHING inside the latch. I may have broke something. If anyone has pics or info how this is supposed to be I would appreciate it. Hopefully I explained well enough for all you gurus to understand. I’m hoping this could be the problem with my top and spoiler
thank you

The end of the cam is what opens the lid. They commonly break. The only source that I know of is a parts/junk car.

I would most certainly do the lock hack while you can.
If it's the emergency release then I wouldn't worry about it...just don't leave any children in there!

If it is the white handle emergency release, don't worry. No carjacker will be able to stuff you in the trunk. And no self-respecting carjacker would steal a XF.
