Extended Warranty
I am in the process of purchasing an extended warranty from DChrysler for my Roadster Limited. For an additional 7/70,000 it will cost me $2,080.00 at this point I think it would be worth it, what do you guys think?

You have a 7/70 powertrain limited warranty. I never have bitten on the extended warranties. By the time you add the deductible to the $2,080.00 that covers the last 48 months or 34,000. I start to wonder if there is a real savings. I realize that one problem could easily pay for it, but I think I'll continue to take my chances. I need remember that I have leased for the last 15 years. Until this Crossfire, that is, it's a keeper.
I bought the extended warranty, but only because my dealer included free oil changes and road hazard on the tires and wheels. The free oil changes have pretty much paid for the warranty. Shop around. You should be able to get a warranty for less than $2K. I only paid about $700, but it's not a genuine DC warranty.
Would rather go with DChrysler since the learning curve for the tech's is high on the car, and the deductible is only $100.00. My seats are being replaced due to the "heated seats" issue, at a cost $900.00 per seat bottom, $975.00 per seat back and $850.00 per seat cover for a total of $5,450.00 so say's DChrysler.
I realize the XFire is basically a Mercedes but I have had 7/100 b2b on my last 3 Chrysler products. On 2 of them it more than paid for themselves. On the 3rd I have not had my Durango long enough to need it yet. If you are planning on keeping your car for a while or rack up mileage quickly I recommend it. Also if you go with a DC warranty you can use it at any CJD dealer. Buying a warranty other than DC's may save you money up front but may be a pain to use it. I also know a couple of people who bought "aftermarket" warranties (not the manufacturer's) and lost their money when they went out of business. Also DC's are transferable for a small fee which can help sell the car.
i can maybe see buying an extended warranty ONLY when the factory warranty is about to expire... but some buyers are dumb enough to pay up front for an extended warranty and therefore having double coverage... this makes NO sense. a big money maker for the dealer... especially for the idiot that finances their extended warranty... paying for something you can't even use until 3 years down the road.
DC's extended warranties are cheaper if bought within 3/36. In some cases if you wait too long after the original expires you cannot even get one. Also in my case I bought the 7/100 bumper to bumper. So if I reach 36,001 miles which I should do at about the 24th month of ownership of my Durango and my AC or some other expensive non-power train component dies that comes out of my pocket. I had 2 trans axles, 4 power window regulators replaced and the heater repaired in my LeBaron after the factory warranty expired. I also had over $6,000 worth of repairs done on my Ram V10 PU after the original warranty expired. They may not be for everyone but for someone like me that put a lot of miles on my cars in a short period time they were well worth it. It depends on how long you plan on keeping the car and how much mileage you put on it.

Also I don't finance my cars therefore I don't finance the warranty. Financing something that loses value as fast as a car does not make sense for me. If I can't afford to pay cash I don't buy it.

Paying cash for new cars is easier said than done for a lot of people. If that was the case, I'd be driving a beater.
I wouldn't buy an extended warranty on a new car. You never know for sure if you're even going to keep it for that long after the factory warranty expires. You're paying $2K upfront plus interest on repairs you foresee. You could take that $2K and put it away for future repairs and you could make out. Buying a used car out of warranty? If the price is right it can be a smart buy.

Prior to buying my first new car, I drove 3 beaters over 7 years. 16 years ago when I bought my 1st new car, I saved my money to buy it out right. Most people average a 5 yr loan. So after the purchase I started saving. About 6 years later i bought a new truck and was able to keep the car. Saving for the truck there was no need to trade the car so at this point I have a new truck and a 6 year old car. Start saving again by this time my income had improved so I could put more money away. 5 years later bought a new car and gave my old car to a family member. By saving ahead of time no need for a trade. 3 years later bought a new truck. I traded the old truck because they gave me about what I could sell it used and eliminated the hassle of trying to sell it. Point is if you buy without financing you can use the money you save towards buying your next new car down the road. You don't get into that vicious cycle of always having a car payment. I average keeping a vehicle about 10 years. When I bought them I had no intention of getting rid of them in a short period of time. On my Ram there was no way I could have put 2K away and saved enough to pay for the 6K in repairs. If you know where I can get a return like that on my money let me know and my next new car will be a Viper. By not financing my cars the money I have saved more than pays for the insurance (and for me piece of mind) of not having a huge expense on a car that has lost more than 50% of its value after the original warranty is gone. It may not be for every one but for me it was the right thing to do.

I also paid in full at the time of purchase. And I also plan on keeping it for a long, long time. Though I do not usually believe in extended warranties, the nature of this car and the potential costs of routine repairs, made me feel that it was the right thing for me.
