Question Recalls

I'm sure there is a thread here some where, but I can't find anything specific.

Can someone post some hard evidence or official report of the recalls for this car. I can't find anything and the dealer told me they don't know of any.
I'm concerned about the fan. The car runs just above the half mark on the temp. gauge. I never hear the fan come on except right at start up and once
in a blue moon thereafter. When it does come on it's only for 4 seconds, so I'm not sure how much cooling it can be doing. I just want to be sure.

Thanks.

I "THINK" that the Fan motor recall was only on non-SRT Crossfires. I had my dealer pull it up as well, and there was nothing there. I don't think the SRT-6 has had any recalls.

Your dealer can pull up a VIP Summary report on your car by VIN number, and that would ABSOLUTELY list any open recalls. If that is what they did when they told there were none, then there are none.

The fan issue was a TSB, not technically a recall. If you go to this web page and enter your VIN, you should be able to find out whether or not the fan mechanism was replaced. Good luck.

Cool, never even knew that site existed, and I used to work for a Dodge/Chrysler dealer...

could be...

I was always trying to find stuff that no one else knew about. Hell, the manager just started calling me when he needed information on something...

I knew there was a TSB, but the dealer won't do any TSBs unless there is a problem. I guess I'll know if there's a fan problem when/if the car over heats.

!The fan TSB is directed at the fan assembly made during a certain period of time. So the TSB applies to any Crossfire model that has the targeted fan assembly installed. Your dealer better check to make sure if you need the TSB done or not because if you do, and your dealer does nothing, then he could potentially be spending thousands replacing your overheated engine. Under warranty, of course.

The fan TSB was done to my car. Prior to that the temp would run just above the halfway mark. Now the temp is mostly just below unless it's really hot out.

There is a website that lists any outstanding TSBs applicable to your car but I don't remember where it can be found. Chrysler.com has something like that for recalls and that may be what I'm thinking of though it doesn't specifically state anything about TSBs. Maybe another member has further information?

This is what it said when I ran my VIN:

"No Incomplete Recalls or Customer Satisfaction Notifications Exist"

Did anyone receive a different message?

OK, looks like the Chrysler link is the website I was thinking of. Just didn't recognize it.

I get the same "No Incomplete Recalls..." when I run my VIN.

Interesting, I bought my car less then a month ago with 19 miles on it and I received the same results as you. Maybe the recalls were completed before the cars were sold by DMX. I wonder if TSBs are considered to be the same as Customer Satisfaction Notifications?

I believe the fan TSB involved cars built up to Dec '04. My car was built in Jul '04. With your VIN I'm guessing your car was built in the summer of '05.

Just to throw a curved ball here... If you are hearing the fan on "start up" from cold I don't recon it is the cooling fan. I recon you are hearing the "Air injection" it sounds like a hairdryer motor running flat out and from time to time it will come on for short periods. When I first heard this I wondered what it was too.

If you have an SRT-6 try this. Start the car, from cold. Quickly open the Bonnet (hood) and on the inner wing in front of the Battery there is a black drum like device. This will be making the noise you are on about, I recon. Apparently it is totally normal, but don't ask me what exactly it does.

Yep, it's the air injection. Man, I thought I knew all my cars. Apparently, this one has some features that I'm still unaware of. Thanks!

I'm glad I was able to help. It worried me for a while too. I still don't understand why it does it when warm for a few seconds now an then. It is supposed to be something to do with emissions control, at least that was what I was led to believe.

Its there to inject air into the exhaust manifolds to help get the cats up to operating temperature more quickly during cold startup; the no-SRTs have it too.

Cheers Woody... mine also comes on from time to time for a few seconds when it is up to temperature eg waiting at traffic lights etc... is this not supposed to happen ?

That sounds more like a cooling fan, but that shouldn't come on at startup, unless you have the AC on. The air pump should only come into play at warm up. Are we talking about the same thing here? On the non-srt cars the pump sits at the front of the engine between the 'V', but I think it is relocated on the SRT because of the supercharger. I'm sure another SRT owner will chime in on this.

I wouldn't say that having the temp. run just above the half mark is over heating in any way. Most of my vehicles run just about there. Now, if it kept rising to 3/4 or into the red, than there would definitely be a problem.
