So there you go folks - A great read by someone who did his homework and gives a scientific explanation of the Sprint Booster that I have always been looking for.

Thanks pgmikes for the great find!

When the Manufacturer of an after market part (especially an automotive performance part) won't tell how their product actually works, and provide you with performance curves - it's time to think before whipping out the credit card.

It turns out the SB is everything I thought it was in my previous posts.

A simple OP amp ($20 in parts) that just gives you a feeling.

I plan to spend my $300 for other mods. I just hate being "Greeked".

Enjoy!!

That "feeling" is definitely worth $280 to me. Soon as I have the cash, I'll order one.

Might be surprised, and someone will come up with a cheaper one by then.

With my '04 cobra, the pedal almost never went to the floor. With the SRT-6, it sees the floor 5 or 6 times in a drive to get milk. Now the obvious difference will be that when the cobra's pedal DID meet the floor, the world damn near ended...and in the SRT-6 with sprint booster, pushing the pedal on to the floor does nothing more than pushing it to 3/4. Such is life. *sigh*

Excellent read and write-up!

The sad thing is...for this 'feel', I would've still spent the money.

The car feels like a whole new beast, regardless of how the fraction of time is measured.

The only downside I can think of for this 'feel', is that once you get used to 'feeling' 100% throttle with LESS pedal movement, and then go and MASH the pedal, you expect a little more but won't get it...because the throttle is already 100% open.

Thanks for the link!

Shawn - could you test yours out and see if that statement is true?

I figured the SB would be a little more sophisticated and leave some throttle response for the last portion of the pedal travel.

Thanks - BB

I didn't read all the posts here so maybe I'm repeating something. If not, here is my evaluation of what the SB does. It makes the throttle more linear. Before the SB when the pedal is depressed there would be a little response, hit the gas harder a little more response. I never knew just how hard to hit the gas to get the response I wanted. With the SB I now know. From a dead stop a very little bit of gas gives much better response than before. If I want to accelerate a little faster, now I know just how hard to hit the pedal to get the needed response.

It doesn't make the car faster, just much more predictable.

Great find and read.
Makes sense.
I always thought they were quite expensive for what they are.

I'll see what I can come up with. I guess I have never tried it to be honest.
I don't have the data-logging ability, just seat-of-the-pants.

But, if the max throttle (according to the research) is achieved earlier, I doubt 'mashing' it all the way to the carpet will change it at all.

Also - I wonder how much different the 'A' is than the 'A2'.

Oh - and I wouldn't be surprised if this part is every bit as 'simple' as people think. It is a tiny device with a few wires, can't be too complicated!

The article is an interesting read.
Why was he using an "A2" version on a manual car? for all we know the auto box may have a vastly different "curve" to the Manual box to start with, thus making all assumptions inaccurate for a far comparison of standard against modified.

I can understand that in a manual car the 0-60 would not be affected so much (if at all) as the driver has full control of the clutch and the throttle response would seem pretty good to start with. The Auto, however is not as easy to get off the mark quickly, even if you do "Mash" the pedal or do anything else to it to try to get a fast launch, believe me I have tried every way possible to get this 1.5 tone piece of metal to shift of the mark quickly and controlled. The sprint booster, in my opinion, is probably more suited to the Auto box and as such the difference felt is greater. Theory and practical application are not always as closely linked as you would think. Real life experience is what it is really about.

As I said in my earlier post, I have no doubt that this is a very cheap part to manufacture but the feeling you get IS worth every penny and you are paying for someone else to have done the research into finding the best "curve" for a more involving drive.

I have no regrets over parting with my money for this, I am enjoying the car so much more now, even more that when I first got it. It is so different, you wouldn't believe it unless you try one.

I don't care what research that dude did, or how smart he is. I'm gonna stay in "ignorant bliss" with my sprint booster. As someone referred to it before, the "butt dyno" says otherwise. LOL.
