Default Warranty Question

I just got a 2005 SRT Roadster; it had 9,600 miles on it. It is certified so I have an 8/80 warranty power train.

The dealer offered me the MAXIE Care upgrade warranty for $1.300. This gives a bumper to bumper for 8/80.

Are there any issues that makes this a good idea?

Sounds like a good deal. Ask them if you can take it to the benz dealer when they stop working on the crossfires in a few years. That should separate the warranty companies in a hurry.

That's incorrect. By law, Chrysler has to uphold any warranties that they sell for that car. You sign a legal contract that they are bound by. Also, they are required to provide parts and service for any vehicle for at least 10 years from production end.

A single seat heater core is about the price of the extended warranty, and I've had to have two replaced so far. It is definitely worth it.

They started working on them? Chrysler would probably save money by contracting all warrenty to work to MB dealers. Think about all the labor hours and wrong parts being replaced before they get it right, not to mention loaner cars for up to two months for things as simple as a seat belt switch.

In all seriousness though I would rather have the bumper to bumper. You are not likely to have powertrain issues. From my previous experience with a Mercedes with the same engine and trans and past participation on the MB forums, the real issues will be electrical assuming you take care of the car.

Is this extra bumper to bumper backed by Chrysler or is it some third party that the dealer makes some extra money by selling? I have had really bad luck with third party warrenties and don't believe a word the salesman tells you if you question this. I wouldn't buy an ectended warrenty from a third party unless the dealership is willing to quarantee the warrenty if the warrenty company goes out of business. I have bought two of these in the past from dealers on new cars. The extended didn't kick in untill the factory warrenty was over. by that time the warrenty company was out of business.

That's true, but if your a mechanic going into training for Chrysler products are you going to become Crossfire certified? Probably not. So as the techs are few now start to dwindle they will have no choice but to send out to MB. Those that are certified, probably should start training for for the new challenger or other products that will be around unless they move to a MB dealer. Remember these guys are working on flag hours, so even if it takes them week to diagnose your problem they don't get paid unless they fix something. Heck I wouldn't be excited to work on these cars.
