Glad that you are OK...I agree with NeverEnough, she would have to have the cell phone surgically removed from another part of her body. I assume there were witnesses, and hopefully the Police report states that she was using a cell phone at the time of the accident. But agin the main thing is that you are OK, the car can be fixed.

Sad picture indeed! Glad you are alright, hopefully they will be able to make it right. I don't know what I will do if this happens but I know it won't be pretty.
Good luck and Happy New Year.

I did drive the car home. It seemed to drive fine, other than having to have the steering wheel cranked to the right to keep it going straight. The BAS/ESP light was on, and I smelled tire smoke when I got home, so either the tire is rubbing on that side, or the toe out is so bad that its eating the rubber just to drive. The driver's side door opens about 1 foot...just enough to slide into the car sideways. I believe the A-pillar at the front of the door has been shoved in about 1/4" to 1/2". My concern is whether they will ever get a door to fit and seal correctly again, and whether they can move the A-pillar back to the correct stock location.

The "girl" that hit me was 23 years old, and the mother of a severly disabled child that was in the back seat of the Honda at the time of the accident, so I didn't really want to make her situation any worse than it already was at that point. I didn't really speak to her for the entire 45 minutes we waited for the police other than to verify that no one was injured.

I have checked values on Edmunds for current condition, and condition with a blemished title, but they won't give salvage title prices. I went up one notch to "rough condition" and it appears there is about a $7000 difference on average, so not sure if I should just ask for that from the Insurance Company, or if I should go talk to the salesman at the dealership that sold me the car and ask him what his actual difference for trade in would be.

I have found one of the best collision guys around...he works on high end cars like Porsche Carrera's, and exotics. Best case scenario would be that he can get my car back to "perfect", AND I'd get a check for $7000+ to boot. Then I might not be as angry with the universe for letting this happen to me. I'll cross my fingers and hope for the best possible outcome.

What a bummer and rough start to a new year. Good luck figuring everything out and glad to hear you're ok.

$7K?, then you demand for 10K, and stick to it. That way they try to talk you down, you get the 7K. This is not your fault and the insurance company doesn't give a damn about you. They are in business to make money and minimize loss. A damaged SRT? Helluva loss, so they'll try damage control. Go through hers that way you don't need to do a deductible then get it reimbursed.

just saw this thread, man that sucks.

before you settle with insurance go see a doctor about your back, neck and arm pains, that you've been experiencing after the accident.

you will never get 10K, they will just hold up the claim...

If you had read ALL the posts in this thread you would see this question has already been asked and answered.

If a 25 mph t-bone doesn't deploy the side bags I wonder what does.

Yes I would talk with an accident lawyer about that shitty airbag not doing it's job, I sense a new TSB update on side airbag sensitiviy. you could totatly clean up on this man, don't let the fish slip away! you might be able to afford a new shinny AMG 6.3L after this! Remember your having throbbing pains in your elbow!

Man, I am glad you are alright, but damn that SUCKS!
Bad way to start out the new year. I wish they would make cell phones illegal (non-hands-free) illegal at least in cars. A lot of people you see driving today seem to have gotten their licenses from Cracker-Jack Boxes and can't drive on the best of days let alone throwing in a BIG distraction like a hand held phone.

Again, glad you are alright, but it feel for you on your ride!

...can't believe the airbag didn't go off either?? This seems like the perfect scenario for the side airbag??

My local body guy states the crossfires are built really well. Your damage doesn't look to be structural at all from the pictures. Roof line didn't buckle and door is still well lined up. I think a new fender and door and your car should be good as new. Even the rocker panel looks perfect. Anyway all that matters is you didn't get hurt. I've been in accidents before where I lost my cool and it doesn't pay. In court it costs about 7,000 to settle when you break someones nose and that doesn't take into account your lawyers fees, missed work and pay because of your several court appearances, or any of the other agrivation associated with it. You did the right thing and the car is always replacable or fixable. Hey enjoy the rest of the year because all the bad luck is over.

I've looked it over today, and I'm 90% sure the A-pillar that the door connects to is pushed in some. That IS a major structural issue, and it is unlikely a new door will ever seal correctly because its unlikely the A-pillar will ever get put exactly back to the stock location. Gotta love a door that has a wind whistle for the rest of time. The front inside of the door is now mashed into the dash and when you pry the door open the foot or so it will open, you can see the side of the dash is warped where its attachment point is moved inward towards the center of the car.

The front wheel is damaged, and the front suspension up there may be damaged, as the wheel leans in dangerously at the top (camber). Hopefully that's just a matter of swapping in new parts that aren't bent.

Lastly, there is the issue of matching the SSB paint. Silver is the hardest of colors to blend/match. Add to that a blue tinted clearcoat and we could be in for a real nightmare.

In the end, we'll just have to see how everything goes. I'm in a real grumpy mood so naturally everything that could go wrong seems really likely at this point. I'll let everyone know how it goes.

AtomHeart,
I had a small misfortune in the garage this summer when a metal door that was leaning against the wall fell against my SSB Crossfire and made a small dent in the quarter panel near the gas cap door. The body shop I went to is known for excellent work and I will tell you they did do excellent work and matched the paint so perfectly you can't even tell anything was done. They sprayed the entire quarter panel too. I was also concerned about a paint match and I was impressed.
In sunlight or any other condition you can not tell !!!
