First Drive SRT Vert
First drive of my new (to me) srt-6 convertible. Pretty cool. Ride harshness with the OEM Michellins is about the same as my Evo, which has always suited me fine. I guess those who complained about it being too firm are used to driving a Taurus.
Mich rears are shot anyway -- I'm going to replace all 4 with the Goodyear F1 all-seasons -- with traction made even worse by a cold snap in the Northeast. But even with the traction control going nuts at any starts more than half throttle, the car moves out well. It doesn't have that same frenetic kick that the Evo has from 2,800 to 5,800 rpm, but doesn't have the Evo's lag below 2,800. I left it in 4th going up an inclined parkway entrance ramp from 20 mph and it pulled surprisingly well. The S-C at least likes the cold air! That makes one of us.
Auto trans defaulting back to drive after a few seconds is a little annoying, and I keep going to step on the clutch when I stop, but I can get used to it.
Brakes are just as good as the Evo's, which are very good.
Steering road feel is better on the Evo, but then again it seems like the SRT can turn a ten foot tighter circle. There's something to be said for small and nimble.
Accessories so far seem pretty good. I've only signaled a turn with my cruise control once. Heat can fry bacon while you drive. Heated seats behaving themselves as they should. Pretty decent factory stereo too. I can't wait to jam my traveling coffee mug into that impressive hide-away cup holder to test whether pieces of plastic will fly. Maybe this weekend I'll give that a try.

It's been cold in Maryland too! Even snowed yesterday and the idiots around here CANNOT drive in snow. Cars turned over in middle, lots in the ditch. Don't know how the srt works in this weather. When it gets nasty mine stays in the garage. Let me know if you take your out. I really think you're going to have fun with your new ride. By the way where are you in the northeast.

Thanks. I'm in NY. The last rwd sports car I had stayed was useless in the winter with summer tires, just passable even with real snows (Micehlin Artic Alpines). We'll see how the SRTdoes with the F1 all-seasons. I have two AWD vehicles in the house so why struggle when there's snow or ice on the ground. But it's good to be able to take it out for a spin. I've always had more problems with cars that sat for long periods of time then when I used them at least once a week.

The SRT convertible is sprung softer than the coupe so most of the critisims of the harsh ride came from reviewers driving the coupe.
What's this nonsense about the steering being better than the Evo's? You, sir, are delusional!
Everybody knows that the Crossfire's recirculating ball steering is far, far inferior to even the most crudest rack and pinion. It's true because I read it on the internet. Actually, the steeriing of the SRT is tightened up over the standard Crossfire. It would be interesting to compare the standard steering with the Evo's.
And why do the car magazines knock the recirc ball steering as old and unworthy yet never make the same comments about the leaf spring suspension on the Corvette?

Thanks! Steering on the C5 Vete I test drove before deciding on the SRT actually had less feel that the Crossfire. In truth, the last generation Miata I owned a few years back had about the best steering feel of any power steering car I've driven (old non-PS assisted Triummph I owned was even better if and when it was running). Evo is one of the better ones. Crossfire isn't bad, just a little remote feeling from the tires. Maybe that will improve with the new rubber.
I'll keep an eye on the heated seats. The HVAC heat is so strong I really only had the heated seats on for a second. The warranty still hasd a bit to go, so if the h/seats have to die hopefully it will be sooner than later.
Anyone have a link on that stereo mod?

Congrats on your "new" crossfire, I have a limited roadster - went from Conti's to the Goodyears F's
don't count on them in the snow - traction control comes on in a NY minute once the temp drops below 40, traction on snow is scary. best snow advice - LEAVE IT IN THE GARAGE

I went with snows this winter - the Contis were pretty good, but the Yamaha Advan S4 all season tires stunk in snow -
Since putting on the snows it hasn't snowed since... so I washed the car today - hoping that will make it snow...

You need to read thru the comments to figure out which caps you want to use, but I went with the 330 uf caps and the bass sounds great.
