Default Rear Hatch Rattle...

Is there a TSB or a do it yourself fix to the rear hatch rattle on rough roads?

Argh! Use the search button! There are countless threads on the subject and plenty of DIY info. There is a current one about a few days old in the "Coupe" area. Just look down the list of threads! Someone came up with a fix that totally eliminated the rattling for me. It's not worth taking to the dealership. Just wrap electrical tape around the latch bar (part attached to the car) about four turns or so. You can try to adjust the hatch bump stops too, but they always move eventually. The tape works amazing. PLEASE DO THE SEARCH!

Redline, it's no big deal. I adjusted the bumpers all the way down, and that took care of the creaking sound. The only time it does it now is when I pull into my driveway. The sway bars are so stiff, my left wheel lifts off the ground, and I can hear the groan of my rubber bumpers against the clear pads. As far as a "latch" rattle, I haven't taped it. Adjusting the bumpers all the way down seemed to do the trick.

I've adjusted the bumpers numerous times, but always get some sort of creak or rattle that increases over time. Be careful though. I stripped one of the screws while adjusting one time. Since I taped the latch bar, I have had ZERO noises from the hatch. No creaks, no rattles, nothing. even when the hatch bounces around, the tape insulates the metal on metal, so no noise. The TSB is a replacement of the latch with one that has a rubberized coating on the latch bar. The tape does the same thing, but you don't have to worry about the dealership screwing up other things like your interior and paint.

The tape trick is absolutely amazing, its like driving a new car. Adjusting the rubber stoppers proved to be a never ending battle.

Picked up my used 2004 on Monday and discovered the hatch rattle almost immediately.

Placed no more than 1.5" of electrical tape on the latch bar as suggested and it was a complete fix!
