Default Rattling rear hatch???

I notice whenever I go over some crack in the road or any bump the rear hatch rattles and makes noise. I find this very annoying and is there anyway to get rid of it?

Go to your dealer and tell them your rear hatch rattles, they will replace the latch under warranty.

This is a known issue and a TSB was issued on it.

It might not be the latch. Try adjusting the rubber bumpers located on each side of the hatch. I loosened the screws and moved the rubber bumpers all the way out. That is what fixed the rattle in mine. After that I believe it is the most solid car I have ever owned.

Adjusting the bumpers does take up the slack, and can stop the rattle. That's a work around for the real issue of the latch not holding tight enough.

Either fix will work though.

These cars are pretty cool but there can be some issues to take care of. I had the hatch rattle, a small crack in the left door speaker grill that somebody kicked while looking at the car (the grill couldn't be put in a worst place) and something loose in the shifter mechanism causing sound to radiate up from the console around 2k rpm which I still haven't gotten fixed yet. Most of the problems that are reported here seem to of a minor nature.

Do you now own two XF's or did you just pick up the 2004?

I had a loose screw driver rolling around in the cargo area that made a similar noise.

I have had one in that the right rear shock was busted due to tie down on the transport truck.
it was not leaking but the only way i could fine it was by removing the rear cover and riding in the trunk now I'm 6' and at that time I was 249 lb's I've lost 22 lb's since then but the shock was just knocking like it had no oil in it and rattled the whole back there is also some issues with the deck lid trim check your dealer or call me and I will look it up in the dealer connect web sight 9:00 to 5:00 405 919-6731.

Hay Crossfire-tech any idea what might be causing noise to come up from the shifter. It also clicks when I shift from one gear to another. There is considerable vibration in the clutch pedal but I test-drove another one and it did the same but didn't make the noise. The noise just happens when I shift and accelerate below 2K rpm. I'm sure it's a minor problem and hasn't gotten any worst.

Just collected my 05 and sure enough, the rear hatch groans and creaks over bumps.

The latch is okay but the rubber stoppers are a crinkle-cut pattern and I can actually see the crinkle-cut embedded into the duco where they come into contact with the gutter. I figured the little rubber feet flex as the hatch flexes so for a work-around fix I put some loop adhesive Velcro where the stoppers come into contact with the gutters. Cured the issue.

BUT, I still have another very annoying body flex squeak emanating from somewhere in the vicinity of the rear quarter glass, way deep inside the trim, or maybe in the roof lining in the same area ??

The dealer had his tech working on the issue for 4 hours, pulled all the trim and lining out, centre punched body spot welds per TSB, stuffed foam and silicon spray into crevices but all to no avail! They’ll have another crack at it but with the Chrysler field Tech next week. Not impressed for brand new spanker. Will keep you posted.

Cheers

Sean.

Have them check the rear latch (a known issue).

I brought my car to the dealer in order to fix the rattling (warranty). He said after it had to do with the casing. So he did something to it (I saw the fingerprints ;-) but I'm still not satisfied. Gonna see him soon again.

Does anybody exactly know what the TSB says? Is it really about the casing?
Thanks

Thanks again.

adjusting the rubber bumpers located on each side of the hatch. I loosened the screws and moved the rubber bumpers all the way out. That is what fixed the rattle in mine.

The TSB says for cars built on or before 2003. Mine was after, so the dealer said they would just adjust the bumpers. I said forget it and did it my self. That worked for about 10 miles, then did it again, this time using some medium locktite. Still not permanent. I ended up using some double sided foam tape, but that stopped working after about a week. I'm at a loss! It drives me crazy when I hear that thing rattle!! I'm going to try the loop pad from a Velcro strip next.
