Rattling rear hatch???

Question:
How much do you have to build the latch up with tape/whatever?
A longer term fix might be to use "spiral wrap" instead. No disassembly and about .020" build up. It's really cheap and can be found at The Home Depot in the electrical dept.

My question is if this is the same rattle as everyone else has though, mine ONLY occurs if the spoiler is up, it seems everyone elses is always there.
It seems that by tightening down the stoppers on the side it stopped making the sound. Not sure how the spoiler was involved though. I tried tightening them down all the way but the trunk woulden't close. So I then did halfway and it works fine now.
Maxcichon, have you actually used the "spiral wrap" ? Did it work? I've used several layers of tape & I still have this teeny-tiny creeky sound still occuring......

Sorry!
OK, I put a couple more layers of e tape on & took off to go get some of the wrap you suggested...but after driving around about 15 miles...I couldn't detect the sound ???? So maybe I just had to put more tape on??? Time will tell. It does seem to occur more prominently when my wife is in the car with me????
I really love this 07 6 speed, getting 25.5 mpg. Looks like I'll never make it to a million miles before I die though (like I'd hoped to)....after 11 months - only 16,500 miles= 18K/year.....at that rate I'd have to live & drive till I'm 110 years old.

I'd been through the TSB for a rattling hatch and adjusted the rubber stops appropriately, but the hatch would still rattle when I was driving on rough roads.
Then I saw a mention of shawfire's electrical tape method, tracked down this thread, wrapped my striker bar with a few wraps of electrical tape and my rattle is gone on even the roughest roads.
So, thank you to shawfire and thank you to the forum!
I still have this little buggy sound sometimes......I'm thinking maybe it's the tire tools rubbing inside the heavy duty styrofoam holders???? I'll have to try to remember to remove the tools & see if it goes away...
Sorry to resume this thread but I just bought my new XF and I have the same problem.
Maybe it's because I'm not english but I don't understand exactly what the "striker bar" is.
Could someone post a photo of it(even better with electrical tape on it)?
Thanks

I'd like to see a pic of where to put the tape as well. I'm a bit confused and don't want to put it in the wrong place.
Also, to make sure I'm hearing the same noise in my 2006 - does it sound like a snapping, popping, creaking sort of sound from the back that makes you feel like your car is a creaking battleship?

Anyway the solution is very simple;I'll post pics by the end of the week(sorry but I don't have my crossfire there I'm on holiday....and yes I'm without my Crossfire)
So stay tuned in a few day you'll solve your problem(I hope)
So what exactly is the striker bar that seems to be the popular fix with wrapping electric black tape over. Is this the black painted bar fixed onto the car and not the hatch, that the "hook" of the hatch locks into?

The two plastic bumpstops on the sides of the hatch with the "grooved teeth" have started etching the paint on the gutter of the car, so i the soft part of the Velcro adhesive to the gutter area where the paint dug down to the bare metal. This should give the hatch a soft rest spot, and stop the digging of my paint.
Also, i wrapped black electric tape about 5 times around the "striker bar" and my problem seems to have been fixed.
I am REALLY happy with the results, THANKS GUYS
