Default Oil filter cap is way to tight...???

I am in the process of changing my oil filter and oil and having a hell of a time loosening the oil filter cap...I see the arrow pointing clock-wise but does that mean to tighten or loosen the cap?

Thanks

Don't feel bad, I did a double-take when changing mine for the first time too. Damn thing was tight as hell! Figured I should be able to screw it off by hand, but had to fall back to the old filter wrench.

I used an oil filter wrench with a rubber strap as to not damage the cap. Be sure to mark it with a marker so you know where its supposed to be clocked.

You can buy the correct size nut made just for the oil filter cap from Mercedes for about $25-$35 but why spend the money if you dont have to?

Damn Germans?? I have owned mostly Toyotas (like rear-wheel drive 1985 and earlier desirable models) and this car is every bit their equal in so many ways, far surpassing in others. Me? I'd buy oil filter cap.*

*-the dealer changes mine.

I used a big pair of channel locks. At $81.00 I gues I will pick up a filter wrench.

I was being funny with the German remark! Germans have a knack for over building their parts(A good thing IMHO) Not a huge fan of Japanesse cars.
