Default engine noise - maybe pump?

I have had my srt for a few months - put about 3k on for a total of 7k. I have strated to notice occasionally when I drive my 45 minute commute and come off the hiway to a stop light, when I stop I hear what sounds like a pump turn on and run for 10 sec. then shut off. Once this happened again when I reached another light 1/2 mile down the road. Is this normal? is this because of the warmer weather??

Could be your fan coming on, but is probably the air pump or motor (not sure what it's called) that's on the drivers fender. some of us have noisier ones than others.

nope not the fan , yes it is normal ... when you start the engine open the hood ,on the driver side on the fender their is the pump ,
lay your hand on it , u can feel it working and hear it.
it is a Air Pump Figure 25-510

discussed here already

but he's saying after a 45 minute drive and stopping at a light, not right after the car is started - mine does the same thing and it does sound like the secondary air pump just at the wrong time... shouldn't be running after a long highway drive

Thank you Power on - the pump or fan noise I'm hearing is occasional and after a long drive then a stop - I don't hear the sound any other time i.e when I start the car. I'm due for my first check, I guess I'll bring it to the dealer and see what they say - though I really don't want to hear their bull****

yeah the tech at my dealer was thinking it was the "alternator due to excessive drag on the battery" and tested the battery then called it quits... I could have told him that wasn't going to be it

I may check with another dealer to see what they say, will be curious what yours says

A friend of mine, who has always driven Dodge, says that its the A/C compressor cycling; they have the compressor cycle to keep it lubed. In one of the other threads someone said it happens more in the colder months - and that would make sense. I'm going to the dealer for first oil change tomorrow, we'll see what they say.

Thanks

mine is definitely not A/C compressor, sounds more like the secondary air pump than something belt driven

My concern is why is the secondary air pump coming on after driving for a while - it is supposed to run when cold for emissions, not sure why it would engage later. If it's not the secondary air pump just wondering what it is, why it's running when it does, and why is it so loud

My SRT-6 does the same thing all the time. Quite frequently after I come to a stop there is a whir/whine noise for a couple of seconds. By now I just ignore it.

Did anyone find an answer for this? My SRT did this, but for the past month or so has stopped. This would make sense if it is related to the AC
as it is being used daily. But I also notice at times now the car idles roughly. Is this just a coincidence?

Could easily be the ECU fan.

It is probably the Air Pump. When my air pump relay went bad I unplugged the airpump and I would only get a CEL after long freeway drives. The CEL light never came on on short drives.
