Default CAI install

Well I did it, Haven't driven the car enough to get the full effect. My wife hates the look of the engine compartment and questions my judgement. Gotta say they should at least have powder coated the valve covers or preferably polished them. But since I am playing in the last quarter my priority is performance and the wail of a prehistoric bird when the SC comes on. Thanks to all of you, the install was flawless, what with Needswings excellent instruction disc and your helpful hints,"even a caveman can do it".

]I also am not pleased with the look of the engine compartment without the stock intakes but I knew exactly how it would look prior to my doing so. Plenty of pictures were on this forum for me to see what it would look like. The needwings install was very painless and quick.
As for performance...? I cannot tell the difference. I feel no added power or pickup in any range. I know that for most the sound the intake makes may give a placebo effect on the 'butt dyno'.
I was also disappointed in the lack of supercharger whine that so many have wrote about. I barley hear the difference. That said.. It is true that before the CAI I could not hear it at all. But even now it is barley noticeable. Very little sound increase of air induction of SC Whine.
I dont want to but down Needswings and their product. There was nothing wrong with the material or engineering or instruction. I just was hoping for the roar my other autos have with their AEM intakes. I was hoping for a difference in felt power.

Give it some time just like any other mod, let the ecu adjust. Also most disconnect the negative cable for at least 20 minutes to reset the ecu. I would think even hot humid air would improve your base results. You should feel some something out of the box though. Make sure it's tight and sealed around the throttle body as well.

This is on a SRT6? It's night and day for most of us.

If at anytime you decide you don't like it, or the looks bother you that much, you can always go the route of selling the intake to another forum memeber and using the SL-55AMG intake set-up. I went this route because I really wanted to keep the factory looks but needed more air flow for the 181 pulley and other mods. LET sells the complete system if later on you need a change.

Let me know if any of you needswing guys would like to sell your intake. I have one of the much debated BDJ intakes (see my gallery) and I am willing to pay a couple hundred dollars to test the two models side by side. I do not want to spend the $450 to prove a point on a new one, but I may be willing to purchase a used one or scratched one because I personally could not care less if it looks good under the hood! Let me know....

All of us SRT guys can always pitch in an buy one for me to test...if it is actually faster...I will refund all the money to the people that contributed. If its not any quicker.....we have a drawing or something for it? Just an idea!

Frankly, I didn't notice much of a difference in power right off the bat. I DO notice it now so I would hang on for a couple of hundred miles & see what happens.
As to the whine try going from 20 to 40 or so with a steady acceleration, a little load on the engine, & tell me you don't hear a nice satisfying whine. Mashing the peddle produces a nice howl though you'll be holding on too tightly to pay much attention!

Two questions for you BLKFIN, One: Are you a chic? and Two: If so, am I rounding the bases on the first night? Cuz if not, aint no way in the world am I chipping in to get you an intake!

Sorry administrators/moderators! Back to my PG posts.

LOL. I love it. You bet sweetheart...Everyone is so "vocal" to point out the flaws in the BDJ design, and yet...it is all talk. I however, am willing to put up cash to better this forum and put this topic to rest. I, having actually purchased an intake that places the filters inside the engine compartment do not feel that any gains would be had with the needswings design over the BDJ or quite frankly the “home made” ones I see people building. I do believe that all of these designs are an improvement over stock and I am actually shocked that the guys that seem to live on this forum 24 hours a day to be “post ******” have not jumped all over amx1397 for not placing his filter in front of the rad on his new thread.
I don’t need your money to buy a needswings intake. But if I do pay for it all, I will expect to “round home” with you honey…..and you know what they say...EVERYTHING IS BIGGER IN TEXAS!!!

My needswings CAI has been on my car about two weeks and about 1500 miles. I ran it hard almost 400 miles at the Elkhart lake track after driving it almost 400 miles getting there.
A buddy who owns a lotus rode in the car with me at the track and stated he felt no difference and could not hear the SC whine either. I know my car pretty well. I have been at 5 track events and over two dozen autocross events. (only one with the Needwings CAI) My zero to 6o time of 5 seconds statyed the same with stock vs CAI. My sero to 100 stayed the same also.
5 seconds was the best my car would do with stock intake but with a Inmotion tune. The average 0 to 60 time is 5.2 seconds. Again the CAI is a nice piece of work but the GPS device in my car states it made no difference.

Something definately wrong with your car or install! I ran a 12.70 with just a needswings cai. However no loud whine, the car is just not built like a supercharged mustang. It is designed to be somewhat discreet. I did get a few people who said they could hear the sc whine from outside the car. I consider this my best single mod to date! listen to this http://www.youtube.com/v/VZRtsbOkqOU

I am positive the install is correct as is the car. It runs great. It ran great before the CAI install and it runs great after. The car ran great before the Inmotion tune and it runs great after. I just dont feel any difference and times have not changed. Im not unhappy with the slight sound increase I just wish I had more power as I assumed it would offer.

Another case of "HYPE" marketing??..

All the High performance SIX cylinder cars I have ever seen had dual intakes.

Serisouly?? And you post that picture?? You do realize that is a twin turbo setup, so one intake per turbo, right? If the SRT had twin super chargers (or a duel inlet endcap), it would be different. I don't own an SRT or either intake so I have no place to talk about that...just found this amusing

I guess for some strange reason with no earthly answer, your car doesn't like mods. There is no explanation other than your car is screwed up. Your going to sit there and tell me you have a proven CAI and a proven tune, and you see no difference. WOW, the laws of physics, mechanics, and common sense must not apply where you live.
