Default Supercharger on the SRT-6

I have a 205 SRT-6 and I was wondering why I cant hear the "Whine" out of it.. is it something AMG or chrysler has done to make it quiet?? I opened it up today on the Highway and still no Sound coming from the supercharger, I had it looked at and it works fine... and suggestions to why its quiet??

I don't know the mechanics of how the intake is structured as to not produce the whine but I think it could be from the lack of fast moving air being sucked into the engine. The OEM splitter is pretty thin. I think the SL55 splitter creates more of a whine since it's larger but I could be wrong.

A Needswings intake or something like it will give you that nice "whine"

Theres nothing wrong with your Sc, thats how they were made. Just like someone suggested, if you get a NW intake you'll here it more. Get a bigger pulley and you'll hear it even more. But it will never be a prominent whine. I have a few mods and it still isn't a loud whine.

From my understanding, the way the gears are cut on the blower are the main item responsible for the whine. I guess straight-cut gears whine quite a bit more.

I think it's because most Mercedes driveres aren't going to want the "whine." They think it's more a luxury car that a sports car.

So then how would an intake release that sound? Seems odd that a simple modification would make that much difference. Would it be the extra air being forced into the SC?

Talking Re: Supercharger on the SRT-6

There is less restriction to the air going in and therefore less impediment to the pressure waves coming back out ( sound).

Wanna hear it, well remove that black splitter plate just by the throttle body and then try to drive it for a short time without getting a ticket for going Mach 1+. Remember that there is no a filter so this is a test mode. Enjoy Woody

Not arguing that an intake doesn't amplify the whine we do have; but I know I wouldn't be able to stand the whine with both an intake and straight-cut gears.

edit: To me, an aftermarket intake doesn't create the whine; it just muffles it less.

Code 3 performance intake mod $100.00 and you will hear that whine. Mine sounds great.

Will removing the spliter do anything to the engine? As in, it needs to be cool air, rather than hot air coming from the engine bay...

The SRT-6 is quiter due to helical gears on the Lysholm type supercharger. Straight gears on a supercharger, like straight gears on a transmission, make more noise.

You need a NeedsWings intake! You will hear it then! Throw in a new pulley kit and everybody will hear it....

also try to unhook the plastic intake tube's, from the airbox to the front end
you will begain to hear the whine some, plus u still have filter's to keep out
stuff..
then you will order a CAI , NeedsWings worked Great for me also.

The other posts are correct! I think on YouTube or Streetfire.Net there are som Vids of an SRT6 with Mod's and you can defintaely hear the whine during the flyby! Then on the other hand..watch vid's involving the Mustang SVT Cobra's! The ones from inside the car! Thw whine is ridiculous (IMHO) and I don't know if I'd wantto live with that! Personal prefernce I guess!

You have to remember that there are 2 very restrictive intakes with 2 filters muffling the sound. Nuff said.

If this one is only $100.00, how are you any better off with NEEDSWINGS? What's the difference?

2 very different designs? Whichever one's better is up for grabs...
