looking at getting a new head unit.....where is the amp located?? I'm sure the infinity system has one...
and has anyone had trouble hooking up a new head unit? Anyone done stereo mods on theirs?

Try the audio section of the forum. If you can dream someone here has already done it. There are some sweet navigation custom fiberglass install that someone did. All the instructions have been posted along with what keys you need to pull the radio.
