Default 185mm Pulley how tight is to tight?

This is a VERY basic question that I should know the answer to, but since I am running non-stock pullies on my SRT I must ask. I had a LET water pump pulley failure recently on my 185mm setup. Other than the amount of play the Spring assisted Idler pulley allows is there any other adjustment for the Belt?
When installing the belt it takes every spare inch of adjustment to get the belt over the last pulley. I mean it is tight! I actually thought maybe too tight. Did any of you 185mm owners have the same thought when you installed yours? Am I missing a place which allows a miniscule ampount of slack?
Thanks for any input.
Mike

Mine is the same way. You gotta really try and get all the slack out just to get it over the pulley.

jeez if the 185 is that tight i wonder what the few people did with the 192mm pulley. probably had to get a new belt

Well I find it hard I am the first to make note of it on this forum, but I was unable to find any previous mention of the "over tight" fit.

If it's that tight, go for a belt about .5 to 1" longer. My 181 is fine but you do want some type of play in the tensioner. Otherwise, I would think the spring tensioner would prematurely fatigue plus undue strain on bearings, if too tight.

It really doesn't matter the size of the crank pulley it is the size of the pullies they include to take up the slack on the other pulleys. LET could have machined the idler or the water pump pullies slightly smaller then they would have fit much better. I guess they couldn't take any off the waterpump pulley or it would have been the thickness of typing paper.

The trouble I am having finding a belt at all. I can't imagine asking for one that is the right width and 1/2 inch longer. I am still waiting for crysler to get one in for me. I ordered it last Tuesday.

Montana, I got that 115.3in belt just before I left the country a week ago. I will be putting it on and seeing if I get any belt slip or not. The factory belt(114.5in) is pretty darn snug on the 181mm pulley also. I will have to put my console back together before I can test it though. The console is off being painted Aero Blue to match my pillars. I'll get it a static test and maybe do a little revving in park to see if it's REALLY loose.

I dont get back until Saturday.

Thanks Mike, Keep me posted and where did you come up with a belt that close to original?
Before you start it and literally eraise the belt number be sure to log it somewhere.

It's okay. I have the order and the sleeve is still on the belt. It is the same part number only the 1145 is 1153 if I am not mistaken.
