Daily Driver and a pulley
I'm looking to get a pulley and tune done to my car relatively soon (waiting for the 'shootout' results) with some $$ I got from my accident. I do use my car as a DD but most of it's highway miles with track runs maybe twice a month. I'm really looking to know what problems, if any, that could arise with just general use of a car with our pulleys. I won't be running max boost all the time since I'm on the highway 75% of the time.
Which pulley would be the best bet? I don't need tremendous power but that's what we all say before we run our next 1/4 mile and then want more.
I was thinking the 181 might be a good middle ground as to not overspin, or wear out, any S/C parts but the 185 is tempting.
Just looking for some insight from those who use their car a lot with a pulley/tune setup.
BTW, I already have the cooling mods done to the car so I'm good to go in that area.

I had the 181 and have the code 3 so my choice is clear. Less belt stress, no over speed on accessories, and ease of installation, I like the 3. Less cost too.
The 181 was more punch but with the pulley failures and the fact that I had to wait cause I got the wrong water pump pulley first time and then there was a recall changed my quest. I do more on the street also, Enjoy WOODY
My 322 RWHP is without a pulley FYI.

I run the 181 with a tune from LET. Car runs great good low end and power throught out rpm range. Depends on what you want, 178 has been used the most because it was used by Renntech and ASP. I wanted just a touch more and went 181, several guys on here run 185 with no issues. Totally your choice based soley on how you feel.
needswings running the 178. so and that car takes a beating. so i could see that being the best bet. his car will probably run the quickest because it has the most mods but you can always follow in his footsteps with mods
I have been running a Code3, NeedsWings Intake, InMotion Custom Tune and Johnson Pump with great results and no issues at all. Doesn't even effect drivability until you put your foot in it. The Code3 Seems to make the most sense to me. Less Cost, ~same performance as the 178, no extra stress on anything, bassically everything Waldig just said.
The ASP 178mm pulley is by far the safest based on actual time tested on our motors. The MB guys have almost 100k on theirs with no problems. Also a tune isn't needed with it. If you want to optimize for it, then go ahead. I have been running without a tune with the pulley for almost 9 months and the car has responded incredibly. After someone pointed out that the ASP had problems early on, I investigated it. I found their were 3 to 4 versions of the 178 ASP pulley. The verdict and final version was the pulley had to have the dampner. A solid piece was used in the first version and it failed. The first version was nearly 4 years ago, can't say that about the others. I hope in 4 years from now everyone is still happy with their products and possibly will be in it's 4th version.
its up to you what you want...I have a Code 3, but wouldn't knock anyone elses choice, they all seem to be performing well, and the numbers are very close from what all I have read and seen...I think the tune helped bring all the mods I have together...but, its your choice how far you want to take it....a tune isn't necessary, but it will bring out the best in the car...

If you don't race .... stay stock.....less issues with warranties etc.....
Lots of little things you can do with a the stock setup (eliminate intake tube restrictions, K&N filters, ECU tune etc...) that will give you plenty of freeway performance and no dealership issues...

Sorry, my car in not a daily driver, but no problems with the 178 asp pulley. I have a warranty till 2013, and if need be can swap pulley back to stock In 25 minn......No matter what, I would get a pulley!
I currently have a Code-3 Supercharger pulley and it was so easy to install unlike any of the crank pulleys. The Code-3 is comparable to the 178 as far as not really having to have a tune and so on. Of course the price of the Code-3 can't be beat which helped with my decision. And also the Code-3 looks basically stock for when you bring your car into the dealer for warranty work, if you still have a warranty.

LET has 4 181's in stock and ready to ship. We are awaiting our replacement 185's for those who ordered a 185 and got a 181. As of now, hardware sales have been suspended until our restructure is complete.
I would go with the Code3 upper pulley, or the 181 crank.
Both are great products!

I know I'll get flamed for this but, I'd fork out the extra $$ and go with the 178 RENNtech kit. I done some searching on the forum and from what I could tell it would cost about $900 more than other kits that are on the market now. I know $900 is no small change but with all the problems I've been reading about like the tension pulley being too tight, people trying to find a belt that will fit right, water pump pulley's falling off, crank pulley's leaking oil a little, one guy's crank pulley even came off and the latest, a code 3 pulley causing a car to shut down from over heating. With the RENNtech kit my tension pulley is right where it was before the install and the crank pulley looks OEM a long with the whole set up. The only draw back is that the ECU is tuned a little on the conservative side as to not push the engine too close to it's limits.

I wish I was the type that could find happiness with the stock ANYTHING.
I have the 185mm and have to say that with the whole nine yards it is a blast knowing that for the most part (generally speaking) anything that drives up next to you is going to be left in the dust. BUT I did have a pulley "explode" causing one expensive and stressfull Sunday afternoon. The "old" style pulley was replaced and all is now well. I have to say that even in stock attire the SRT is pretty special. Don't just listen to us on this site and especially the results of the shoot out.
KNOW THIS;
stock will always out last the modified car.
bigger is always better.
If your going to take any chances go for it and go ***** out it's always more fun.
and lastly THERE IS ALWAYS SOMEONE FASTER!!!!!!
Enjoy the Ride...

Warranty work depends on the individual dealer. A code three pulley will show higher then normal boost tables in the ecu, and will be as much of a problem as a 178,181 or 185.Even a tune if you open up the tables in the ecu will show the changes in calabrations. If your gonna play then you take your chances. Also the Magnuson-Moss Warranty Act (P.L. 93-637) doesn't do crap for you. The dealer will deny warranty if they so desire and you and the lawyer you have to hire will have the legal responsibility to prove them wrong
Everyone on here is smart enough to realize you always increase the chance to have you warranty denied if you alter anything from stock. Guys with the Ford 6.4 turbo diesels have had warranties denied because they used K&N filters and triggered emission controls that effect the DPF

bulldogger has got it right...I have a very good and understanding motorhead service mgr I follow around dealer to dealer...where he goes, I go...its that simple...if he says warranty it, they do, if he says fix it, they do...no questions asked...get a good relationship with your dealer's service mgr...not the writers, the mgr....
