Default Is belt dressing safe? (s/c clutch chirp)

Our manual says dont use belt dressing...

But my s/c clutch chip is getting way out of hand. Ever since installing my code3 pulley, new oem conti belt, and arizona weather droppin to 50 degrees in the morning, I'm getting a huge chirp and hesitation around 1500 rpms...

Am I safe to try belt dressing?

The funny thing is you know I'm going to end up doing it anyways, I just like to ask you guys first so I feel better about it.

As long as you don't get any of it on the pulleys or in the bearings it shouldn't hurt anything. It can and will degrade the belt over time with continued use. It's supposed to be a temporary fix for a glazed/worn belt, not a permanent thing. If you don't mind putting a new belt on more often then go for it, and just keep it out of the pulley bearings.

Maybe you need a new tensioner, I'm in 20* weather now with no squeeks, with a 181 set-up.

Code 3 pulleys are smaller and they make the belt tension less as a result. The tensioner has more belt than it is used to . Woody

I use a conditioner that is not supposed to have negative effects on the belt. Supposed to keep the belt near new and not dry out at the same time keep it from slipping. Again, that is their claim. I only use it once every couple months. I have not experienced any slippage that I am aware.

I have a code 3 pulley and run the crap out of mine with no noise whatsoever....so I think his tensioner is getting weak...even w/ the smaller pulley, there is still plenty of tension there....and no problems...

Of course the belt manufacturers admonish us to never use any type of belt dressing. I’ve used it successfully on other applications (the riding mower!), but it’s obviously a bandage instead of a cure. Since you’re going to try it anyway…;-)

Mine has an occasional metallic ‘screech’ that comes and goes as the miles pass. It’s coming from the clutch interface, not the belt.

C3P has a belt wrap kit currently being tested that increases the belt’s arc of contact and perhaps reduces the tensioner’s deflection to better accommodate the relative lengthening of the belt from his pulley.

Hey Splinter, any idea when that belt wrap kit will be released to the public? Price?

TIA!

Then you will always get owned by someone with pulleys

To the OP, if the tensioner isnt bad try switching to a gator back belt. From what i gather the s/c Lightning and Cobra guys swear by them and it supposedly eliminates belt slip on their cars. Its something i plan to do soon too.

OHHH OOOHH OOOOHHHH call on me teacher............

I ordered and checked out the gatorback and I like Goodyear BUT that belt is trash.

The grooves are cross grooved in an irregular fashion and have less material holding the belt. I have been told of fast wear and chunks flying off also. It looked so bad that I sent it back straight away. It really looked like some one cut it at home with close and wide spaced areas of cross cuts, WTF??????????

About the C3 belt wrap kit.... I like the idea but after seeing the recent events on here and MBworld I wouldn't trust sending even a dime to them.

loungn14 and jturkel – both of whom are members here and on MBworld – have had it installed for some time.
Alas, they’ve yet to share any details regarding its efficacy or affect on performance.

C3P alluded to the hardware months ago but has posted nothing further since then, AFAIK.

Being a better-informed consumer and enthusiast is merely one benefit that the transparency of these forums provide.

As with all potential transactions, caveat emptor.
