Fun with a Ford GT
I've been doing some reading here as a newer SRT-6 owner (bought my '05 in July '08 with 98 miles on it, never been titled ... I totally stepped in something to find the car, and am glad that I did). It is my daily driver, and what an amazing car it is, as many of you know.
OK ... so I thought my first post should be a good high-speed story:
About 2 months ago now, on my way to work from NJ to PA on Interstate 78, some tractor trailer decided to cross the Eastbound median and head back Westbound. He totally cut off all traffic to a halt, so when I got the chance to get around him, I went downshifted via manu-matic mode and stepped on it a bit. Low and behold, when I looked in my rearview mirror, I saw a red Ford GT behind me (which I had seen once before on this same route). With NO ONE in front of me (since the truck stopped traffic and the traffic ahead was all clear), I let the car rip. Yeah, I know the stats of the Ford GT, and know I was easily out-accellerated, out-handled, and not close to his top speed, but the point was to just have fun. SO, the GT stayed with me ... 80 ... 100 ... 120 ... 140 ... WOW, what fun .... once I hit 150, traffic came on REAL fast, so we both backed down.
Once he got to the side of me, I threw a peace-sign as he gave a thumbs-up ... THAT is what having fast cars is about ... comradery, not who-can-outdo who. Though I typically keep my fast driving at the track, this was truly an opportunity not to be missed, and fortunately the PA State Trooper that is sometimes at that 78/33 interchange was not there that day! >
I'm looking forward to lots of great information here, and losing my stock performance trim very soon.

Actually, (according to Road & Track magazine), a NA XF Coupe goes thru a slalom "faster" than the Ford GT.
Dex, what a great way to "represent" the Crossfire, to an owner of Ford's best.
I'm betting that it's an encounter that nobody on the Ford GT "forum" will ever hear about. But he may mention to his "pals" to just ignore SRT6's.

Last Saturday, I ran a Ford GT and a Ferrari 575M, I was door to door with the 575M, the GT was just a ghost as many times as it disappered on us.
I have the tune back on my car (thanks Jerry) and feel that I will now walk the 575M. We will run them again in a few weeks.

What is great about the SRT-6 is that most people have NO idea just how fast it is.
Having raced my 92 Mustang in a stock class (11.9 at 113mph), and doing more handling at speeds with my Maserati, my Xfire is very comparative to both of them ... and, dare I say, it felt a lot safer at 150mph than the Maserati did (though the top was down on the Maz at the time, so maybe not a totally fair comparo).
I have a few questions out to the guys at INmotion before I re-chip anything (and will look to lose my resonators for better sound), but their increases seem significant ... I'll likely do a before-and-after comparison at the 1/4-mile (cuz I don't wanna pay for 2 days at the dyno
).
Oh, and I just tried the "W"inter driving setting today, even though it was only wet roads ... traction control light still stayed on pretty solid through 2nd gear and into 3rd ... guess that setting won't help all that much in snow, but that's why I keep the Jeep around.

A few weeks ago I followed a GT out of Detroit in traffic. I was in my A6 which is chipped and fairly peppy, and the GT and I threaded traffic at 70-80 for about 10 miles before parting ways. That GT definitely has a cool sounding exhaust esp when going under a bridge. But it looked like one uncomfortable ride.
This one I'm standing by my cousin traded for a Super Snake Cobra, I'm sad to say. ??????? The GT is an incredible piece of machinery. The supercharger isn't as pronounced as the Terminator Cobras, but it accelerated much more smoothly. Everyone stared at us just like a bikini girl carwash, nearly causing collisions.
