Default Looking into getting an SRT-6

*Mods, If I have put this in the wrong section, please move it*

I just have one question about the SRT-6 and I'm sorry you have all probably heard it many times but...

I love the car and everything about it, except the auto. I have an SRT4 now and have driven manuals all my life for my "toy" cars. I was just wondering how the transfer from the manual to the auto is for most people? I think I could deal with it at first but after a while it would really bother me, but I have no idea. I think a 6spd is too involved and pricey and I assume the paddle shifter would be fairly easy but very expensive, but I don't know.

I have driven both all my life and don't have a problem with the SRT auto. You can shift it manually or let it go by itself. For an auto it is very good.

I miss a traditional manual shift in the SRT6, but the autostick (slap shift) allows you to select your gear. It does apply computer brain to prevent you from over-reving the engine. And the way the SRT6 accelerates, the auto probably does a better/safer job of shifting smoothly than most drivers.

Test drive an n/a with a standard and then an SRT6.

Yeah, he's on SRTForums.

He just replied to the thread I have over there about the photoshoot I had done with my SRT-6.

I personally have never owned an auto, always go with the manual. Almost didn't go SRt6 since I couldn't get a manual, but I have no regrets. The transition to the auto was quite easy, and I fell that the auto-stick works quite nicely once you take the time to learn how it thinks. i.e. Holding it to the left will force the tranny into the lowest possible gear for great downshifting accleration. If you shift the auto stick just as you would a manual-letting off the gas as you shift-it even feels similar. Notice I said similar.

All-in-all, no regrets from a man that swore to never own an auto. I love this car!!

I sign every post the same and it reveals my position on manual shifters..

That said, I love driving my wife's SRT. The shift is crisp and as 007-M16 reports, you can control it well.

Everytime a V8 Mustang pulls up along side your NA stick shift, you'll regret having the stick. Out of the hole, the manual is clunky. At 219 HP the car has quick but not blazing acceleration. Yeah, most times you can run a respectable challenge and if your good, you can often win.

With the SRT, most of them don't even try. Just knowing that saves you a lot of tickets.

Given the narrow price difference right now, if I could only have one, I would go SRT.

roadster with a stick.

ya I am over on srtforums.

I think in every way possible it's a step up from the srt-4. I just wish it at least had paddle shifters or something.

If it weren't for being an auto, I would've never bought the car. I learned in my mustang GT that dealing with shifting a powerful car is pointless stress as a daily driver. Either you shift slow and look dumb and go slow, or shift fast and work way too hard just to drive through stop and go traffic.

As soon as I test drove the srt-6, and its auto tranny, I was sold. The tranny shifts faster and higher than a person ever could with a manual. These aren't the old days of auto trannies.

And the electronic shift stick tapping is fun to show people, even if I never use it alone.

Second that, especially at the track. Add spinning and wheel hop for 3 gears equals 14 sec runs with 400 hp.

I have both a DCR stage3 Neon SRT4 and a Xfire SRT6. It's a trade-off as to what you want/expect. When hauling people/kids to school, SRT4 is very roomy. Suspension mods are needed to limit torque steer, handling, and launch squat. I have a full frame brace, coilovers, Hotchkis sway bars, and strut tower bars for that. That's about as good as a Neon will ever get. It still won't handle like a stock SRT6, even with all that stuff. The SRT6 is built better, pure and simple. If you want handling and braking, go for the SRT6. SRT6 stops better with stock brakes than Wilwoods 13" rotors and Hawk pads on an SRT4. You want "style" and "panache", SRT6 all the way. You can get either car to go as fast as the other. The tranny in an SRT6 works fine. Your left foot will just atrophy off unless you use it for braking instead of clutch work. Cheap speed, upgrades, and cheap parts - Neon SRT4 all the way. Handling and looks, but more expensive labor, parts, and insurance - SRT6

If you are on SRTforums, you can check out my posts and see a picture / video of my SRT4 - cuda340man username there.

Just going to echo what everyone else said. I've always been a stick guy when it comes to performance cars, but I like the auto stick in my SRT6. It doesn't take any effort and I can still kick the car around. When I'm in L.A. traffic, I'm really glad they didn't offer a stick because I would have opted for that and been real
sorry. This shifter is fantastic.

I would think one could make paddle shifters for cheap, but I don't know this car well enough to speculate on that.
