Default Lighting gremlins

Coupe is back to Manhattan dealer for the fourth time. Electrical problem. Set the alarm, 3 flashes car locks tail lights flicker for about three minutes cannot disarm alarm while lights are flickering. Lights stop flickering car will disarm lights flickering again for three minuts +/- can hear mechanical clicking sound coming from trunk area. Related problem, flip turn signal on right, dash indicator flashes rapidly, step on brake turn indicator on dash goes out, take foot off brake, make right turn DOME LIGHT COMES ON !
They have replaced fuses and six bulbs in the tail lights, finally on the last drop off all the symptoms showed themselves while the service mgr. was there (before that the symptoms would not be evident and I'm sure they thought I was nuts)
Anyhow the beast is still in the shop and they are still scratching there nuts trying to figure out what is wrong.
I would love to take the answer to this problem from this forum and hand it to the service mgr.
Oh yea, last gremlin, the alarm doesn't chirp when set and the panic will not activate on the key fob, when you get the alarm to go off it sounds like a stangled cow.
thanks folks !

I have to agree. A place to start is replacing the Alarm Siren mounted under the cowl. (Strangled Cow syndrome). This is a known issue for these cars. Do that first and maybe the other symptoms will go away.

Maybe.

Have the garage replace that siren module. I did it myself, and it was a real pain in the rear.

Those that have replaced the siren have said it's just a speaker replacement. The speaker being the siren. It's merely the output for the alarm moduel. I would have to assume that its your key fob that continues to transmit after pushing the button or your alarm module being faulty. An easy test of the key fob is test the range of the fob. Press the button from 100' and get closer or farther to activate the alarm, once you activate it then walk away and see if it stops flashing. If so then it's in your key fob, if not then it's your alarm module.

From others that have posted different electrical issues relating to the trunk area. It all came back that the seal around the trunk area didn't seal properly and allowed water into the bottom of the trunk which houses several electrical modules. You may want to check this area for dampness or maybe correlate to when you washed your car or possibly was out in the rain?

I had the "No Panic" symptom too, along with the "Cricket on Crack" (The technical term for it!). They replaced the siren module alone and that's all it took.

I'm not saying this is the fix here, but it worked for me.

So did the lights still flash when you hit the panic button? Just no siren? I've never even tried my panic button. My siren doesn't chirp so I don't hear any noise and kind of prefer it that way. If it might cause a problem down the road then I may get it fixed while under warranty.

Sorry, my mistake. I didn't mean the siren module. I was thinking the alarm module, which is between the wiper assemblies up near the firewall.

Nope, If I pressed the Panic button (on either of 2 keys) absolutely nothing happened 90% of the time and the other 10% I would get the Cricket!

Now you have siren blaring and lights flashing with the panic? If so then maybe mine needs to be fixed to. Maybe that little siren controls more than I thought.

Well, color me stupid! I went out to check this. Yes, the siren sounds and the FOGS, SIDE MARKERS, EYEBROWS and BRAKE lights all flash.

This can be confirmed by the Auburn Police Department. An officer was standing just around the corner watching the baseball game and came walking up as I was trying to turn the damned thing off. I was able to stop the siren by pushing the "Disarm" button, but the lights continued to flash. I stopped this by starting the car. All is now well and the policeman is a pretty nice guy.

You owe me one. A BIG one!
