Thinking about a Srt6
Wow, thanks a bunch guys, I've learned more in the last few hours here than I did for the last week searching online.
And thanks for clearing up the supercharged turbo thing, I'm a little embarrassed I called it a turbo for a week.
If nothing else, the safety part has pretty much sold me on the crossfire. I really want one now. Birmingham has one for about 19k , and I think next saturday I'm taking a trip down there to try it out. Probably won't buy it, but at least I'll get to feel how it drives. From the sounds of it, I'll like it.
How many major parts on the Mercedes are interchangeable with the crossfire? I'm just thinking if something went out and I couldn't get a hold of a Chrysler part would Mercedes parts work?

Most of the Chrysler parts for these cars are Mercedes parts with a mark up.
If you are looking at the SRT that Benchmark has it should be at least $2K cheaper with 43K miles.
This dealer is asking $1K less w/41K miles:
http://www.cars.com/go/search/detail.jsp;?tracktype=usedcc&searchType=21&pageNum ber=0&numResultsPerPage=50&largeNumResultsPerPage= 0&sortorder=descending&sortfield=DISTANCE+descendi ng%2cDISTANCE+ascending&certifiedOnly=false&criter ia=K-|E-|M-_10_|H-|D-_7169_|N-N|R-250|I-1%2c7|P-DISTANCE+descending%2cDISTANCE+ascending|Q-descending|X-popular|Z-35201&aff=national&paId=305861910&recnum=17&leadEx ists=true
This guy is asking $26900 for a brand new, never titled one. He had to shut down his Chrysler dealership, and now has this on his used car lot. May be willing to bargain.

If you want to stick with $15K/50K miles:

Me, I'd try to get this one for $19.5K (7K miles asking 21K):

You have certainly started off on the right foot. I bought my NA on impulse. I have not been disappoi9nted in it, however I found this forum afterward and would have benefitted had I done things in reverse as you are. If you are serious about the SRT-6, as you seem to be, there are currently 60 for sale on AutoTrader. If you $15K limit is based on cash, you have an excellent buying tool. If it's based on monthly payments, dicker with the interest rates, and length of loan. Perhaps you can move up a notch with longer loan.
Have you ever searched Autotrader? If so you should be able to find what you want. If not, PM me and I will walk you through the steps so you can cut out the items you don't want.

Ok, I've looked around on here for what exactly I should ask about and check for when I go look at one.
Here is what I have, ask how new tires are, ask how recent oil change is, check around doors for rust.
Anything I am missing?

If it's a SRT, ask if they have records of the IC pump being replaced. It's a known issue with the SRT's. You'll know when it goes bad.......you won't say "HOLY $HIT" when you floor it and hit the kickdown button under the pedal.
On all Crossfires check that the heated seats work, see if the 8th preset on the radio works (non NAV units), check if the foglights have their centercaps in place or if they are sitting in the bottom of the housing, look for a little delamination of the texturing on the center console, and look closely at the wheels for curb-rash.
Many of these things are not necessarily "dealbreakers" but just giving you some ammunition to haggle on the price if you need to.

I beleave when buying a car if it doesn't say enough to you that you needn't
ask for help deciding you should keep looking until one does.

A transmission leak is also common. There is a TSB on it.
It's an easy fix, and you may be able to use it to reduce the asking price.
Also, fogged headlights are common and the little "button" on the earlier fog lamps often pops off.

Checked the one out today. Very nice car. He let me test drive it, and let me give it lots of gas.
Got to 40 on an on-ramp and floored it, it threw me back into the seat and we hit 100mph in no time flat. I loved it.
The dealer wanted I think just under 19 for it out the door. That may could come off a little, but probably not a lot. The car had 43000 miles on it. Good looking car, no dings or dents, no leaks. Only issue was one of the little foglight covers had fallen off. Is that light cover something fixable, or is that pretty much screwed? Also, it had a bit of a squeak to it while driving slower. I am not sure what it was, and it wasn't loud at all. Just a slight sound, sounded like a plastic on plastic kind of thing. Anybody have any clue what that would be?
So do you guys think that's a good price? It was definitely over what we wanted to pay, but it's a maybe at the moment. We didn't get it, told them we'd get back to them. Should I try and talk them down a little lower, what do you guys think?
Edit: Need to mention it had a new oil change and brand new tires on it. Front rotors seemed a little worn, so they may need replacing in the not so distant future.

stock vs stock, the srt-6 will smoke the 350 on the drag strip, but will get it's *** handed to it on the twisty roads by the 350....
but with an intake, 12's is pretty sweet for $15k
plus, the 350 is a dime a dozen

Mr Lama,
I just bought an SRT coupe over the weekend in N.J. from a collector car dealer. I started out like you trying to hold around $15-16K. However, I am such a nut about detailing that any scratch bothers me.
I was able to pick up a very clean Airo blue coupe with 10,780 miles for $16,900 and it still has balance of warranty until Oct. 09. The dealer even had it driven down and delivered to me on Mother's day.
Need to check out the items pointed out by the other members in their reply to you.
PS: I did look at a car in Richmond VA it is on AutoTrader by private seller. It is Saphire blue coupe. It has approx. 14,400 miles. It had two to three small ding on the roof?. The rest of the car was very clean and drove nice. He was asking $18,800 and I believe you can get it for $17,200 or lower. He even offered to deliver it to me on his trailer for only $100 to cover gas. I live near D.C. so this is approx. 2 hr drive for me.

2. There are several threads discussing squeaks and rattles and their appropriate solution. Most of the time if you know what area of the car it is coming from, you can find out what it is making the squeak. For example, one of the notorious squeaks, the real hatch, is solved with a 2 inch piece of electrical tape.
ALWAYS TRY TO TALK THEM DOWN!!!! I hope you soon get the Crossfire addiction!
