Default Tires ad nauseum

I searched all three forums for tire discussions and the best was here in the SRT6. According to what I have read, it appears the fronts can comfortably go from 225 to 235 and the rears from 255 to 275.

Would I be correct in assuming that going from a stock 225/40-18 to a 235/40-18 would give me a slightly larger diameter tire? Are those of you running this size experiencing any clearance issues and does it "fill" the wheelwell a little more?

I read (in a post) that going from the stock 255/35-19 to a 275/35-19 would increase the diameter about an inch and could throw off the angle to the front. Would going with 235/40-18 front and 275/35-19 rear restore that angle, or at least keep it close? Any other clearance issues? Would I be better off with 265s?

I'm looking for a little wider tire (like that look) and want to fill out the wheel well a little more. But I don't want to risk anything hitting when I turn or when bouncing over road expansion joints.

The most likely combination to maintain clearances and diameter is 235/40R18 up front and 275/35R19 in the rear. They look great, keep all of the staggered relations intact, and most manufacturers carry these sizes. You can go fatter in the back, but NO more wider or taller up front. Again, ad nauseum:

on OEM wheels, 235/40R18 and 275/35R19 is a sure bet.

Here's a link to a wheel/tire size comparison calculator - I preloaded it with the SRT-6 stock tire sizes for your convenience:

Wheel-Tire size comparer - RIMS-N-TIRES

Stayed stock on the front and went 285x30x19 in the rear. Wider tire with height offset by the lower ratio of 30 vs 35. Little difference in tire height. Speedometer is off by less than 1MPH at 60. They look GOOD!

I went to 235 40 18 on the front; 295 30 19 on the back.......no issues with aftermarket wheels the same width as OEMs

No issues, but then, I don't road race it either.

I just responded to another thread on this same issue.
My 235/40/18 Nittos were really close to the front A-Arm nut - on stock SRT Rims. I ended up putting spacers - 10mm just to be sure I didn't have a problem. I also put 12mm spacers on the rear just to keep the look balanced. Turned out really nice.

I don't know why I seem to be the only one with clearance issues on the front with this size tire? The car is NOT lowered although it does appear that the front springs have settled a bit.

Oh yea, i also went with 275/35/19 on the rear.

Cheers,
KrzyFast

I put 235/40/18 on the front with the stock rims and I had 1 mm of clearance with that A-Arm bolt. That was with the car in the air with the wheel mounted. Not enough for me with the way I drive the car. I ended up with 10 mm spacers on each side in the front. Looks great! The 235's are 4 mm taller. I put 265/35/19 on the back and there's still tons of room. Not for a taller tire, just wider. I have 5 mm clearance at the bottom of the fender lip with the car on the jack. So don't go any taller. You can go much, much wider if your willing to experiment. I'll try and take some photos later today. Oh, I'm running -1.6 camber on the front. With a stock alignment you should have more clearance.

Ok, here are some pics to help you to decide. Michelin Pilot Sport Cup 235/40/18. My car is not lowered. I am running -1.6 camber on one side and -1.9 on the other. (for a particular track) I still don't know if the tires will hit the fender under hard braking, it looks as if they may. The pics are from my phone camera but you can see well enough how the 235's fit.

(I forgot to remind you that I have 10 mm hub centric spacers on the front to clear the A-arm bolt. 5 mm spacers wobbled)

I just purchased 285/30/19's for the rear on stock rims... they look great, Michelin Pilot Sport All Season... they are on sale at tirerack.com for 159 a piece while supplies last, seemed to be the best price for any tire that would fit the rear stock set. Y speed rating too so now I can test out that 200mph speedometer!!(while steamrolling the pavement) Just a FYI on a good price.

Wow. Good price.

285 on the rears?!? I thought 275 was the widest that would fit.

285 is the widest tire that 'should' be mounted on the rear 9" wide rim. Some have gone 295, but is not recommended. And ad nauseum, the biggest tire safely up front is 235/40R18. To put it another way, on OEM rims, the controlling factor in the rear is the rim width (9"). Up front, the controlling factor is interference with the control arm nut. Yikes.

Happy trails.

Thanks for all the feedback. I think I'll stick with the stock size in front to avoid spacers. I like the idea of 275/35-19 in the rear for a "meaner" look. Noted that the speedo will be about 1% off, but I can live with that esp since I already drive 70-80 on the highway.
