Default Wheels - Clear Coat

Has anyone experienced the clear coat on the wheels peeling off? I've seen a few posts about blemishes and spider crazing under the clear coat, but nothing of any significance regarding peeling of the clear coat itself. The clear coat on all my wheels is peeling off. My car has never been through a car wash, and I only use mild detergents on the wheels (no wheel cleaner). I've actually waxed the wheels from the backside to the outer side with FMJ several times. I have a theory as to what happened... When I took my car in a few months ago to have the tires replaced, I believe the dealer cleaned the wheels with a wheel cleaner to ensure the balancing weights would adhere to the inside of the wheel. Should I try to get these replaced, or will it just end up happening again? Any help would be most appreciated.

that is definitely a possibility. I have a cleaner for chrome (for the bike), that is pretty aggressive. It says DO NOT USE on polished aluminum (what my other rims are). Don't know how bad the damage would be but, I could possibly see this happening, but not after one exposure.

If your warranty isn't up, I might try that route (as I had one rim replaced for the crazing). But in all reality, I think your going to have to fix or replace them. Since they are so expensive, I'd try a wheel refurbisher. You'll probably find it's going to be a fraction of the replacement cost- but do it right away. The longer you drive with the bare aluminum exposed, the deeper any corrosion can be and the more costlier the repair becomes. Good luck & let us know how it turns out!

The clear coat is peeling on my rear passanger side rim. I took it to a dealer in florida last year and they said they couldn't do anything because they considered it a wear item. I also have clear peeling on my driver side fender that they wouldn't fix.
