limited top speed
hello guys,
i'm from germany.. i would like to buy a crossfire..
i found a srt near by my hometown.
the srt is an import from the united states (florida). But there is one point which makes me skeptical.
the guy who wants to sell the car told me that the car is electronically limited on about 136mph which is a little bit slow for a srt, or?
i thought the car is limited on about 155mph as in germany (250kmh)
are there some states in the usa where cars are additionally limited?
or could this be a defect?
greetings from germany
gerrit

The limiter SHOULD be set at about 155mph from the factory for all US cars. Most of us dont get to test that limit to verify it though. You can have it changed to a higher value if you want.
Your numbers are correct, lord-quas. The Crossfire is wired shut at about 155, maybe a few MPH above, from my brief experience with the car. There is a much longer discussion in the forum [skimmed it a few days ago] that goes into the whys and wherefores on the subject. Just use the 'search' function.
Can't offer any thoughts as to why your seller is mistaken, sinister or no, but the Crossfire is a swell car. I've had mine for just a week or so and love it. Lot's of great info here, so keep up with your homework AND GO BUY ONE!

thank you for answering..
i think that there is something wrong with the car..
if there is no special reason why the car should be additionally limited why drives this car only 135mph?
anyone has an idea??
EDIT:
ok - i will search 80)

MikeR - how can it be changed on the Crossfire?
To change it you have to reprogram the cpu.
When you get a "tune" they reprogram the cpu *** limit to a higher speed.
Don't know why anyone would want to lower the speed.

to change it - it is not such a problem - you got to reprogram the motorsoftware..
a guy from the german community could do this for me..
but i think that there is maybe a bigger problem than only a additionally limited motor.. maybe there is something wrong with the supercharger.. thats are also the thoughts of the community in germany..
i only wanted to know if anyone heard something about a additionally limited crossfire.. if there is no other or no reason which explains it - i will not buy the car.. i don't want to buy a (maybe) defekt car..

well, even with the pump gone bad, not sure it would even do 135...but it would run really bad, no accellation at all....I would think you would know if the SC wasn't kicking in....and popping up to 130-140 is a breeze in the srt....so someone isn't telling the truth...take it to an MB mechanic and have it checked out first....then make your offer, can't be much wrong to make her run....it could even be a bad belt, something simple...how many miles was on it???
It might have a little boost leak..... I agree with Doc, take it to a mechanic and have it checked and then decide... it could be a very minor thing...or not
today i have discovered that the car had an accident..
i think the lower speed has to do with the accident..
i will not buy the car..
i think i will find soon another interesting crossfire
thanks for your help!!

The non-SRT6 is electronically limited to 150 mph and the SRT6 to 158 mph. I've had my roadster to 140 and the SRT6 to 150 and climbing (when I ran out of road). Both are stock. You can see from the answers, that with some performance parts and a tune the SRT6 can exceed 170 mph. I hope you find an SRT6 and do the mods -- you'll be the only one who can safely (or at least legally) test and tell about it's true top speed.
