Snap crackel and pop, WTF
Took a drive and while I was driving away from the house heard odd sounds from THE REAR!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!11
Did an about face double time and headed back, been driving sporty but not too hard. Got louder now and then on the way back but have had other cars start making noise and I drove home. As long as it was going I was not stopping for anything, Hel bent for leather so to speak. Not going hard just going till I finally got into the garage.
PHEW that was unnerving to say the least. Took all of 30 seconds to determine the problem, there were 3 studs in the rear driver wheel. WTF. I had tightened them with a air wrench that has always read out over 90 pound feet of torque. Damm that is not good.
In my future there will be blue thread locker cause I change the wheels frequently 2 -3 times in a month and never had an issue. So there will be a torque wrench handy now and blue locker at the ready.
Glad that it was not the rear, I did not wanna have to put the mustang IRS in this summer if it was not needed. PHEW, missed the bullet this time.
A word to the wise, check the wheels more often, Id never think it could happen to me. Wiser Woody

It happened to me once, years ago with a Ford pickup. I still can't figure out how it happened. I have my SRT wheels off weekly lately. Thanks for the vigilance warning. And thank goodness it wasn't the expensive part back there.

Happened to me in my Mustang! I was running around 80mph on hwy very scary i must say.
**off topic**
I have been hearing a roaring sound @ the rear. Alternating from right to left. I remember my front right sound like this (or wheel bearing) took it in and they said the tires were flat spotted. New tires no sound. My rear tires are near bald...could this be the cause?

Just an FYI-I have a set of 20 OEM MB lug bolts I removed when I swapped wheels. If you mess one (or more) up-give me a holler...

I lost one during my first time at TMS going 100 mph but the biggest concern was the torque placed on the wheels in the corners but all ended well. I changed to longer bolts as well as thread sealer.
I once put an old lugnut behind a friend's hubcap. He never brought it up, so I still don't know what he thought when he found it, but all his nuts were still tight.

Torquing them up to spec is not good when there is insufficient thread engagement to begin with, as this can start to shear the threads at their root. When this happens the thread comes out looking like a Heli-Coil insert.
