Talking Get your rear in gear

If the rear gear from a N/A fits as Jim has said, then it can be used in the car.

The computer is looking for a certain number of pulses from the wheel "tone" ring. The pickup is the wheel speed sensor and if a replacement ring were to be cut and installed to give the speed sensor its correct number of pulses; the computer would give no codes and the abs would be intact.

Its just a matter of figuring out where to mount the ring and relocate the sensor to count the "teeth" as they go by. Robs water saw would be my first thought make up the wheel rings.

HOWEVER UNTIL THE REAR STRENGTH IS IMPROVED, THE LOWER GEAR WOULD WORK A GREATER HARDSHIP ON THE DIFFERENTIAL PIN. I.E. you would work MORE torque on the rear and thus greater deformation and damage.

Iam working on the clicking rear and believe that I can improve the rear strength, but this is one project that I dont want to TRY on my working car first. I would do the change first after I can get some physical measurments off a bumm one first.

Ill leave it to others to do the calculations as to torque increase over the stock srt ratio and the approximate gear number and rev / engine speed to be expected at the end of the 1/4 mile.

Enjoy, Woody

This is not a Ekoj Loof Lirpa, Iam serious here.

woody, maybe this info will help
1 i installed (i think)225 50 16 tires and rims on my car, they were 24.7 tall I drove around for hours tring to get a engine light,,,nothing,, every thinh went perfect,, in fact at 80 if you slap shift down and punch it ,,it would light up the tires,, so ---
I went home removed the stock srt rear (307 ratio and installed the limited rear (327) leaving the shop it was good because i could only go into 1 & 2 gear,, but then i got a block of clear road ,, i eased up faster and faster ,ok 40 mph and when it went into 3 gear it went into limp mode, checking the cell it said third gear ratio incorrect,,, cleared ir and all day played with tire sizes 26.1 stock,, 25.1 DR's and 24.7 16inchers always getting the cell and limp mode at 3 gear,, now in 1 ,,burn the tires,2 shift(in auto) pulls great then into third and ,it like going into neural, then put the stock srt rear back into the car. any questions call me or send me your # i'call you jim

Wouldn't the different amount of pulses coming from one wheel be interpereted as wheel slip and cause the PCM to apply T/C or ABS?

I think Woody is saying that there are some pickups in the differential (perhaps the ring gear?). This would explain why when putting on smaller diameter wheel/tire combos nothing happens (other than your speedo being off).

from manual:

Set Condition: Calculated ratio not within allowable range for the engaged gear. No shifting operation. The
TCM constantly calculates the transmission ratio based on the N2 - N3 input speed signals and the calculated
output shaft speed (CAN message from the ABS). The TCM will detect if the transmission is slipping or an
invalid gear ratio is present.

You guys are right again!

The problem you'll be facing if you mess with the just the sensors and not actually get it programmed so the EGS likes what it sees is your ESP/BAS will be going nuts as soon as you turn the wheel because the front and rear wheel speed inputs will not be within spec. To do this, you'd have to change all 4 sensors and rings. Can't just do it with two. Sorry to be the negative nancy.

I'll let Rudy go into detail Woody, but when I talked to him on the phone yesterday heading back from MD he seemed really excited about the progress he was making...

I think I heard a loud "YAHOOO!!!!" at one point when the engine cranked...

It's not only possible, but it is currently being worked on. We have changed the rear ratio but there is just so much going on in the programming that when you change one thing, it changes it elsewhere and messes something else up. It's all about finding the right combination of changes to yield the result we are looking for. It's not far off but I'm limited by what I can do with a car that is 300 miles away from me. We have an E55 trans (which has the same gearing as our SRT6) in a crossfire with a 3.27 rearend so we have a test bed to work on it with. I can't work on it every night after work like I'd like to because of the distance from where I live. We'll get it though and this isn't just to get a N/A in an SRT6 but would also work for any rearend you'd want to fab up to work. To many irons in the fire and not enough hours in the day.
