Any suggestions for a new owner of a SRT 6 coupe on what mod's would be a good start. Also is there any particular place to get or look at the stuff for a SRT.

Welcome,
You're gonna love that car! I've only had my SRT coupe for the past 10 months, so I am somewhat of a new guy myself. There is a lot of great information on this site, all you have to do is look. In my own case,
I started with a dual cold air intake from Needswings. Expensive, yes. The best around, YES! It allows the engine to breathe better, and results in a noticeable improvement in performance. You can also hear the supercharger "whine", which is cool as well.
The next thing I did was replace the Bosche intercooler pump and separate the intercooler and engine coolant systems. This has resulted in the car running much cooler, and the S/C no longer cuts out if it gets too warm outside. I highlly recommend this mod.
I've also changed stereo systems, since the factory unit is not that good. Otherwise I'm just enjoying the car, and waiting to decide what mod to do next. I am in no hurry, and suggest to do the same.
Best of luck on the new ride. Tell us about it (ie color, mileage, ect)
We're all nosy people around here, and love to hear about each others cars.
John

If you have thought it over and chosen to "Mod" it first off KEEP EVERY STOCK PART YOU RRMOVE !
Cold air intake is generally the first mod people go with. I did most of my engine all at once. I really wanted to feel the difference from stock to WOW all at one time.
You will hear companys' names such as "NeedsWings", TVT more than anyother but take everyones' opinions and learn from them. Many sound as though there getting kick backs from these companies.
Asking on this forum can get you more info than you will ever believe.
Good luck with the SRT...

My suggestions, ask the guy you bought it from if he replaced the intercooler pump yet. If he did and rep;aced it with the factory part, get another one and go ahead and seperate the cooling systems. In ours, the intercooler which cools the supercharger is also connected to the engines radiator. This just ensures the intercooler never really cools down as much as it could seperated and heat will not just slow you down a bit, but drastically by shutting off your supercharger and going into limp mode. That is less of a mod and more of a cheap necessary fix for these cars(the IC pump at least). Now I am far from the mod expert, especially since I am new too, but I have probably logged 100 hours or more on here reading and catching up. When it comes to mods, these cars are pretty simple when it comes to bang for the buck mods. There are 3 basic, simple and best bang for the buck mods. Then there is everything else that is gonna be expensive compared to the HP gains. If you are looking for quick and easy, get a S/C pulley, a tune and an intake. If you like doing things yourself or are on a budget, take your S/C pulley to a machine shop and have them reduce the size for you, the S/C pulleys work by adding boost because of higher revs from a smaller pulley. Build yourself an intake and last, but certainly not least, get a tune(dyno is best but not necessary). I like the idea of doing it all around the same time personally, so you see all the minor gains added up at once so to speak and feel more wow for your money. LOL If you've got a bit of cash, are short on time, or are not mechanically savvy though, just buy the stuff. LOL The tunes are a bit high IMO, but they are the most bang for the buck and if you will watch the forum and wait for a group tune, they will have a dyno available and get into the affordable range. I hope that helps and please keep in mind that I am no expert. That is just my advise.

First of all, let me start with a sincere Thank You to all. I appreciate everyone’s suggestions, recommendations, and support on my endeavor to make my SRT 6 standout like yours. This will be a time project for me as funds come available. But, after I get out of college things will start to move allot faster (the car that is).
Let me start with all the helpful information and suggestions that are provided by everyone on the forum, that are either in my position or have been at one time. I often go on the site and read to see what everyone is doing or have done already. I will most likely be buying most if not all my mod parts new, as the parts on the forum are rather hard to get, unless you are extremely lucky because they go so fast. Don’t get me wrong, this is a good thing, as we are on the forum and all trying to achieve the same results for as little $$$ as possible.
A little background on me, my first car was a two year old 1968 AMC AMX 4 speed with a 390 go pack with a few other mod’s. I had the fastest car in high school not to mention the young ladies (that another story). It helped allot that I had Auto Mechanic class in the afternoon every day. So as funds came available I was able to just pull my car on the lift and do whatever I wanted to my car. Transmission, clutch, brakes, rebuild the engine whatever I wanted to do, and I had a trained mechanic and all the tools available to me. Those days are gone now, except in my sorted little mind. Now days I cannot afford good mopar muscle from back in the day and my knees won’t permit me to attempt a total restoration. So as in those days of the muscle car, I picked another car that has great potential and one that few people have ever seen or got a good look at up close.
So not intending to make this thread to long, I located a Crossfire SRT 6 in St. Louis, Mo. A private owner did not want to, but decided to sell his car, because he did not have the time to appreciate it the way he did when he first bought it. It had 9300 pampered miles of it and was well maintained and cared for. I talked to him and he said he would let it go for $16,500, so I decided to fly out to St. Louis (by myself, no wife) and take a look at it. Well, I took it for a 9 hour, 600 mile test flight back to Pittsburgh Pa. and put it to bed in one of my garages. I wanted to buy a black SRT 6 roadster, but all the ones I found were at dealers and they jacked up the price on them. I have no regrets or complaints’ about settling for a SSB couple and in a year or so I will start may search again for my roadster.

Welcome to the board, Chief!

Where at in Pittsburgh are you located? I'm about an hour north of the city. We'll have to include you on our occasional Crossfire get togethers in the region. We have a couple folks from Erie, Akron, Cleveland and the general north east Ohio, north west PA.

Anyway, back to your questions about modding your SRT-6:
First, you have to decide what your goal is. Will you be drag racing? Road racing? Or just enjoying a powerful drive?

For the drag racers, it's almost all about making more horsepower and getting it to the ground. For the road racer (JaneBridges and a few others) its less about power and more about handling.

Before I get too far ahead of myself, let me just point out three mods that you will enjoy no matter what you plan to do with your car:
1) a Cold Air Intake - the stock intake is restrictive, opening that up should net you about 25 horse power.
2) a Pulley - by putting a larger crank pulley or a smaller supercharger pulley on you're getting more boost and making more power - depending on which pulley you choose, you'll get around 20-30 horse power.
3) an dyno tune - yes, you really should get your car tuned on a dyno. It costs more than a "canned" tune, but it is enough better to be noticeable and makes sure that you're not leaning out during any of the RPM range.

With those three mods, I would even do them in that order. You don't really _need_ the tune unless you're planning to mod the engine further, but an ECU tune always helps.

As for which CAI to choose, they all give performance numbers very similar to each other. So go with which one is the most aesthetically pleasing to you and your wallet.

Choosing a pulley can be a little harder, though some of the choices aren't even available anymore. Does anyone make the 181 anymore? Are Code3 pullies still available? Did they work out their manufacturing issues? The 178 pulley seems to be the most popular.

ECU tunes generally come two vendors: Eurocharged and InMotion. There are other shops that do them, but those two are the most popular by far. There may be a new shop opening up, which is an off-shoot of Eurocharged. I don't know any specifics on that.

Good luck! Drop me a PM and we can meet up some weekend and talk shop.

P.S. I highly recommend NeedsWings. Rob is a great guy and will help you any way he can. I have more NeedsWings parts on my car than I can count - OK, not that many, but you get the idea.
