Talking Cooler than a canadian squirrel's nuts

Went to the autocrosses event today and it was hotter than a caribbean hooker on nickel night and sitting in a hot car was toasty............

Decided to turn on the a/c while waiting in line and hope to not stroke out. I was worried that the car was going to really take a heat soak but it was me or the car.

TAAAAA DAAAAA the car got cooler while the a/c was on BOTH the inside and the engine!!!!!!!!! Whoa, that was a suprise to me and it worked on all 7 laps. I did not run the a/c while on the track, that would be silly.

I determined that the tstat I have is a 180 and that the engine is computer controlled to 197 via the fan speed control. BUT IN THE A/C POSITION the fan runs at a higher speed, thus the engine fell in temp even with the a/c ( heat load) on.

Now I have a 180 stat. ( how to posted on the forum ), no hood blanket, no splash shield under the engine, and the a super cooler infront of all the radiators [a/c and engine]. The hood vents are also a plus even at 93 degrees ambient.

So the next time your in line at the track try the a/c thing and see if it works for you. A cooler stat is a good idea if your into hard driving, my suggestion.

Enjoy the hottest summer weve had for a while, Woody

Woody, never thought to try that... Always knew turning the heat on full blast would dissapte some engine heat (had a '94 Blazer that liked to overheat), but never though the A/C would do the same thing... I guess it is time for me to instal my newly acquired 180 tstat.

On a side note, how are the crossflowing manifolds treating you? Have you noticed any improvement using them

Ok, did you have it reprogrammed? Because my information is that the factory has the fan turn on at something like 215F in the N/A cars. Is it lower in the SRT or did you have that reprogrammed?

And is it true that ALL cars come with a 195 t'stat?

My water gauge is never as hot as 215, but the fan keeps the car at about 200 or less when NOT MOVING forward. It could be better like your number.

The manifolds are doing well but I need to get to the dyno to provide numbers that can be believed. I need to document the value and gain if any, though the car runs well since I did it. Iam remiss in doing my homework, but I am having fun while goofing off. My wing was a distraction too, but Carlisle is once a year.

I thought everyone knew that! My car always runs cooler with the A/C on because of the fans running. Without the air conditioner running my IAT's are 20º over ambient. I guess living in the broil zone (tropics) has learning advantages. So how did you do at the autocross?

How did the autocross do, well I was not fast like the vets or cobras and I give =credit to the throttle body for that.

Results were consistant
#1 61.9 plus cone
#2 61.9
#3 62.8 drove with the a/c on during the run
#4 61.883 afternoon
#5 60.8 afternoon

Al in all consistant considering me as the driver ( wild variable operator).

Enjoy, Woody
