Exclamation Need to locate a new wiring harness

Long story short.. Water leak in the trunk, caused all kinds of ghost problems and eventually shorted out various electrical parts.. The Chrysler dealer is doing the work, but cant find one of the major parts. Its part number 5140998aa..Its a wiring harness that pulls all of these parts together.

Do any of you guys have a resource I can point them to?

Thanks in advance!

There was a complete wiring harness on ebay at one point and I was tempted to buy it, but opted to save a couple of hundred bucks.

yeh I'll be honest yall.. This whole missing part thing has me concerned.. what happens in 4-5 more years when these major parts cant be found?

Im going to dodge a bullet this time because they have located one.. But according to Chrysler there are certain parts that Mercedes made that after the divorce that are no longer made or only come from Germany...What I also learned from all of this is that Mercedes wont work on the car and Chrysler dealer here in Mid TN barely knew more about the car than I did.

This happened to be a part that made the computer system connect to lots of the other electrical modules.. If they were not able to locate it, then it would have had to have been hand made I guess??.. as the car was not able to be driven.

The dealer also told me that they had another xfire cust that had a part that was on back order thru sometime in 2011!!??

I certainly LOVE this car, its awesome no doubt..Im not even ready to sell it or trade it or anything drastic.. Despite the $9K repair bill (thank you state farm!)
but am not sure about 5 years from now.

i understand your pain! eurofix will be more than willing to work on your car. parts can be had from parts.com under the mercedes part #. dont let cool springs m/b dissuade you they are jerks! if you dont mind getting dirty jhm2k and 13dog are regulars in my garage and you are more than welcome. its hot and dirty but we manage to save some big bucks over the dealers!

Here in Mid TN---Stuttgart South can work on this car. They are located at 621 7th Avenue South, Nashville, Tennessee 37201 (615) 256-2565. I have taken several MBs there and that is what this car is---so he can do it.

As for parts, in 5 more years the used parts market will have more cars in it. And MB will have parts for the SLK---Hard yes---Impossible no. I owned a repair shop for 10 years and had to hunt at times, and like you, I always found the part---so it can be done. The body panels will be the trick in the future. I can not believe that ALL the harness was bad, but I was not there.

I live in Nashville; which dealer did you go to?

lol..I didnt hear anything about it.. But Im defo down for the next one!..I would love to put faces with the screen names.. We really love our car but dont know anyone else that has one. Thats why this whole problem has been just a nightmare..

JimmyJames.. we went to Alexander Chrysler.. and seriously it is $9k!!.. If SF wasnt picking up the tab on this one we would be up a creek scrambling to figure it out...But as soon as the Ins company got involved the dealer price to repair went from $790, $1,500, $3,000, $8,000 and yesterday it went to $9,000...all in a matter of like 2 weeks.. Basically the car was acting squirrelly and while in their possession it proceeded to have a complete melt down..

We just want her back!.. We are supposed to get it back by this Friday. Keeping our fingers crossed!!

WOW!!! I sure would like to know what happened. I'm not doubting the repair bill at $9k---I am just wondering what was wrong. I have repaired 1000's of cars and very few hit that number without engines PLUS going into them, and I worked on MBs and BMWs all the time in South Florida---Nine large is a bill.

Zero experience with Alexander, and it looks like it will stay that way from what you are saying.

Good luck, and hope to see you soon. Jimmy

I've learned to avoid the Alexander guys.

Steve is a great guy. All the tools you'd need, plus it's always a hilarious time with all three of us in the garage. Spare no emotions, not a place for thin skin but we razz each other all the time. C&C is definitely a meet that you need to attend.

Sorry to hear about your woes; definitely check out Stuttgart South and Eurofix. Just don't go there for an alignment.

Talking Re: Need to locate a new wiring harness

I knew a dude that used to rent his same car style and "replaced" his alternator, waterpump, starter, or what ever.

What we need here boys and girls is to find a car leasing company that we can rent crossfires from for the weekend.

Its going to be canabalism soon enough, and the strong shall survive.............
