Default Smog Question In CA Regarding Mods...

I'm about to pick up a forum members ride out of state and he has the In Motion ECU and the Needswings Intake. Would the car be able to pass CA smog emissions? Do I need to put the stock intake back on and retune the ECU to factory settings?

Woodys way: Why ask why.
Test the car and if fails, do the reconvert otherwise drive on.

My credo: No ask No get.

Easy for a guy from Virginia to say Ponder this though, *IF* you fail a smog check in CA your car is now a *GROSS POLUTER* yep, tagged for the life of that VIN number. You win all sorts of fabulous parting gifts... You get to be tested at more stringent 'test only' stations, are required to test more often then semi-annually like your clean burning counterparts do. Try registering a gross poluter car in this state

Very good question sir. I have asked the same in the past.

Apparently an ECU tune will NOT cause a smog inspection failure.
Needswings intake WILL FAIL because it doesnt have some BS carb certification, so you have to take it apart and put the stock intake back on for smog inspection.

That is unless you can find a shop that would... ahem... ignore the fact you have a non certified intake on there.

I have a Eurocharged tune, 185 pulley, Eurocharged headers and SL55 Intake. I passed no problem and I live in CA.

You passed the visual because the guy that did the inspection did not see the headers. A Needswings intake is right in the guys face. The stock intake will have to be re-installed.

You have trouble reading Bush ? It says SL55 intake and Gramma has a C32 so it's really not much of a stretch for the visual... As far as visual goes, you can find smog test stations that will overlook some visual stuff like CAI's etc, but if the tailpipe sniffer says dirty, the game is up.

Gramma, your numbers are squeaky clean There must be something to that Eurocharged tune

The headers may or may not be noticed... the SL55 intake IS a factory intake(just bigger) so will always pass....

I did the Aero a few months ago with the NW Dual CAI on and had not issues.... but I am in Oregon and they just measure and check the OBDII... no visual crap...

No trouble reading, a SL55 intake looks stock to a Smog Test Tech. As does the pulley.
