Default Some advice, please

OK, so here's the deal. I'm thinking of selling my SSB SRT6. Less than 20K on the odo.

So do you think I should return the car to as stock as possible and sell the various aftermarket parts separately... or sell with the mods?

-C3 Pulley
-LET Shorty Headers
-Dual Needswings CAI w/big filters
-Koni Shocks
-Eibach Springs
-True dual TVT exhaust (rear cat / resonator delete)
-Sirius radio built in
-Beltronic 45X radar built in

Also has Ruff wheels, oversized fr and rear Goodrich tires, Johnson pump, wires/plugs, spacers, and modded thermostat....all of which I don't plan on removing.

Thanks

I'd recommend removing the easy sellers: Code3, NW CAI, and maybe the shorty headers. Those will all sell quick and for decent money. The rest probably isn't worth pulling off.

I learned when selling my VW a few months ago, people want it to appear close to stock. My body kit killed me getting a decent offer. I pulled my race axles and got a whopping $50/ea shipped for them (paid $200/ea). I couldn't even sell my race exhaust, I ended up throwing it away. So, I'd say the same would go for the SRT's used suspension and exhaust parts... people won't pay much for them and they are heavy to ship.

Just my .02

Spudracer is considering a SRT6 and possibly a SSB one. He's new on the forum. New thread over the past couple of days.

I'd be interested in the C3 pulley if taken out!

It really is hard to say. If your looking for what will appeal to a wider population, stock. If I knew what I know now I'd want to buy one already with the aftermarket parts. So summing up, modded you appeal to 2000 people that already have a SRT-6, stock you appeal to people that don't already have one.

I would love to buy the koni shocks, shorty headers, intake, and pulley if no one else beat me to it. Subject to a great deal, since it all adds little value to some buyers I would really love the shocks! What do the headers do for you? How much do they run and do they add power? As for the pulley and intake, how much are you asking? Keep me posted! My personal gain aside, don't get out of the crossfire game

I had it dyno'd b4 the headers........347 at the rear. Never dyno'd it after I put the headers on and added the exhaust, but (seat of the pants) feels alot stouter.

I'm going after a CTS V coupe later in the year, I think

Your mods are worth more off the car. Your car could even be worth less with them on.

That's the beauty of these cars. It's easy to take it back to stock and part out the mods.

Sorry but, I won't even consider a car that has signs of being modded. You just never know if the car has been raced or otherwise beaten by an "enthusiast". Also, the quality of the work and the skills of the mechanic involved in mods is a complete unknown. Was it done by a competent shop or some guy with jack stands in his back yard? Modding is money you should plan on never getting back. In fact it may lose you money as you're hearing from the experience of other sellers. If I'm buying a race platform, I don't worry about mods. If I'm buying a car for the street, I look for excellent stock performance and leave it alone with the exception of tires.

Wow.....well, there you go....but, stock they really suck....I would have went back to a stock vette if I wanted to putter around and look good, but once you modify these just a little, cold air intake, an easy install for us old shade tree mechanics, a code 3 pulley, again easy install, and the tune, well, you have to have the masters of the programming to help you there, and I have two SRT's that perform just fine and will never go back to they way they were. But, it is your money, and your car.....just don't knock the old shade tree mechanic out there, 'cause those that frequent this forum are pretty good at what they do....

thats just it you wouldnt know a modded car from here unless they want you to. so easy to go back to stock they can lurk all day mod the car race it every weekend and then sell it as completely stock. not everyone shows what they have under the hood
btw i have jackstands in my garage and ill stand behind my skills over a dealer any day! without star das most of them couldnt find the muffler!

I don't mean to insult the skills of the good hobbyist mechanic who has invested the time to learn about cars and invest the money in tools and who lavishes loving attention on his cars. My point is, how do I as a stranger buying a car tell that guy from a ricer or an idiot trying to save himself five bucks with a wrench kit from Walmart and a pair of jack stands? And someone who would modify a sports car may also be someone who was looking to go racing. I don't want a used car with racing wear on it.

I too would like your mods and like all the other people who are only concerned with your well being would think it is in your best interest to remove them and get them to me before selling. And once again I am only concerned that you come out well with the sale.
It was hard to get towards the front of the line of the do-gooders.
Forgot to mention you should also get those horrid wheels and tires off it also.

Mike

the quality of the work speaks for itself. look at rudy's v8 as an example. with the exception of a thinner aftermarket fan its very diffucult to tell that the cars he builds didnt come that way from the factory. also the quality of the parts. from stainless to teflon coated intakes hand built manis and so on. these ooze quality as some (not all) homemade intakes and modding parts look like they were bought at a walmart and hacked to fit.
i also disagree with the modding =racing theory. look at bigkids list of mods. he has matched every part, researched the impact of the parts and has a high quality very powerful RACE CAR. yet he never takes it to the track or abuses the car. he simply wants the best he can find and takes pleasure in knowing he can blow the doors off most anything around him
racing wear? do you mean the guy that tracks his car and replaces fluids after each track day and brake and suspension parts as soon as they exhibit signs of use or the guy who has a stock srt-6 nd races everything in sight from stoplight to stoplight and never uses the right oil only the cheapest he can find runs his tires to the core and replaces them with the cheapest he can find? abuse takes many forms. an educated eye can see the abuse from a mile away

Well, I have never had my car at any track (drag or road). Probably because I'm so old I might fall asleep at the timing lights and then I'd be embarassed by some snot noser in a Honda.
