Engine quit running, need advice.
I'm new to the forum and need some advice or suggestions. My '05 SRT6 coupe which has never had a problem suddenly quit running while driving down the road. The engine just quit, and will not restart. I had it towed to my local mechanic who checked the fuel pump, and also tried installing a new crankshaft sensor. No luck. He does not have the gear to scan the car, and says it is not worth his time and my money for him to continue to blindly try to fix the car. He suggests that I take it to a dealer, which I hesitate to do since I don't know of a dealer nearby that is familiar with working on this car. I've read numerous posts regarding the bad connections on the RCM module, and am tempted to try this fix. But it seems that the symtoms of the bad RCM include the engine NOT cranking, and mine does crank when I turn on the ignition. Any suggestions or advice would be appreciated. Thanks!
I'm guessing that my mechanic checked the battery, but I'm not sure. The fact that all the lights on the dash come on and the engine seems to crank normally led me to believe the battery was not the problem. I was driving at night when this happened, and the headlights were working fine also. But I'll look into the status of the battery anyway. Thanks.
A cheap scan tool will give you the codes you need to carry on. I think WallMart even sells them.
At this point I would double check.
Fuel pressure.
Crankshaft Position Sensor.
CAMSHAFT Position Sensor.

Buy a code reader it could and probably will save you hundreds if not thousands of dollars.
The battery does not appear to be your trouble.
Interesting to hear that the mechanic should be able to read the codes. He has what he says is a good Snap-On Scanalyzer, and claims when he hooked it up to the car it failed to establish communication. I also talked to another mechanic I use, and he said it took some kind of DRBIII scanner to read the codes. Anyway, can you suggest a specific brand and model of scanner that will work and give me an idea of what it should cost?
I use Autoenginuity w/ a laptop but that's over $200.
But OBD2 info is standardized and should work w/any scanner.

Thanks for the information on the scanner Tunaglove. I'll check into that and see if I can go pick one up. I'd like to get the car running asap so it is back in my garage and not sitting out at the local mechanics shop.
I have the exact same problem at the moment. Car stalls while driving. When I go to start it again, it cranks but no start. Eventually it does start but sometimes it takes several minutes.
The car is at the dealer (covered under extended warranty); I've mentioned the possible CPS issue and RCM issue and asked the tech to pull the code for me. I'll share when he sends it to me. Please let me know how your issue is resolved.

I didn't make any progress today because once again we are having monsoon rains resulting in flash flooding. Maybe I should be building an ark? Anyway, I'll be sure to fill you in on what the problem turns out to be. When you say CPS issue, are you referring to the crankshaft or the camshaft position sensor? I already tried replacing the crankshaft position sensor and it didn't fix the problem.

I sincerely appreciate all the advice and suggestions you folks are providing. This forum is great! I've gotten much more information here in a matter of a few hours than I got in 3 days using one of those "Ask a Mechanic" websites. About the only answer I got from them was to take the car to a Mercedes dealer.
I'm suprised no-one mentioned the no start issue related to the relay control module. See this thread. It's one more thing to check.

Good luck.

I'd still like to know if a bad RCM is likely in my case, since the engine cranks but does not fire. Seems like most of the folks with bad RCMs could not get the engine to crank.
Last time I had an issue like this (not with my Crossfire) I seem to recall there was no spark and it was the ignition coil. It's been a while though, so I could be recalling it wrong. I'm sure someone on here will pop on and see your symptoms and figure it out.
Best of luck.
